Where did you start playing?

My dad first took me out to a par 3 course when I was 8. At around 10 I "graduated" to the local par 29 executive course. I didn't play my first "real" course until I was about 12 or 13. I still remember thinking how cool it was that my dad got us a cart. Where did you start playing?

I started playing at the local high school's practice football field. My best friend and I would stand on opposite ends of the field on the end lines and try to hit the ball for a "goal post in one". (This was back when the posts were two vertical posts and one horizontal post (the cross bar).

I was fortunate enough to be raised at a very nice country club where the john deere classic was held when it was the quad cities open. Been playing since I was about 10.

A field behind my house. My dad used to mow out a small fairway and green since the grass in the field was about a foot high for me to work on hitting shots then I went out shagged all my balls and started over again.

Started playing at a local par 3 course at the age of 19. Played that course for a few years until I graduated to, "real" (par 72ish) courses. IMO, starting out on par-3 courses was great for me starting out because it allowed me to focus on my irons, shortgame and putting at first and not even worry much about the woods.

My high school's home course was the country club right behind the school so I got to play it all the time. I always felt a little out of place though because most of the guys on the team were members of the club with all the latest gear.

I started at a par 3 when I got clubs for christmas about six years ago. After that I played many many rounds at Pecan Hollow in Dallas Texas

Few years ago. I went to walmart got a set clubs and played a round or two a year for a few years. Then last year went a lot. Enough that the home course forced me to become a member. And I've been trying to spite them ever since.

Got a job at a local par 35 as the starter. Started playing then and never looked back.

How did you get a job as a starter when you are under age 60?

Phouepou 08-20-2012 08:11 AM

It was a 9 hole course with no tee times. I took names and coordinated groups at the turn.

Old people marshall, they like the clubhouse to have a pulse and some color.

They do things different here in Kansas.

Started playing about 4 years ago (includes 7 months off because of injury). We were living in the North of Ireland and my wife (girlfriend at the time) bought me some golf lessons for my birthday...not sure she knew what she was in for.

My father took me to this little 3 hole course when I was about 11... par 3, par 4, & a par 5... then after a few years I upgraded to our local 9 hole, which closed down a few years ago. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...ies/crying.png

In high school, I worked at a lighted par 3 course in town. It was awesome. I never did much more than play around on the driving range with lost & found clubs and a couple old drivers they had. Also, my cousin lived on a fairway of the local country club. We'd grab my uncle's clubs and whack balls from the yard back across the course. I didn't really play golf until I was stationed in Phoenix at Luke AFB. It was the early 90s. My first set consisted of KMart Wilson 1200LT irons and a Big Bertha clone from a thrift shop. Then I had a kid and took a ten year break, mostly for financial reasons....kid's are $$$

Started playing in high school. Had a group of guys who went out once every other week on the weekend and a couple of times in the summer when we were not working. Also my dad tried taking me out a few times.

I started playing at a 9 hole course in a little town called Harrington that is 15 miles from my home when I was 16.
I was pumping gas to make money for my first car since the folks said, "you want one, you buy one."
One of the mechanics at the gas station got me started.
That course still has the rep of being one of the best 9 holers in the state.

Saw my neighbor chipping in his front yard at the beginning of last spring and was curious. Chipped a couple balls rh and then off I went to get a starter set of clubs. Went out with the neighbor a couple days later to hack up a local muni. Hooked ever since.

CKDIWEQ 08-20-2012 03:13 PM

Played my very first round in 2009 at the local course in my home town. Very first time I had swung a club. Been hooked ever since.

High school was my first time. My friend went out with my dad and I stayed home. Heard they had a ball so I decided to give it a go. Needless to say, been hooked ever since!
