embarrassed... almost made hole in one on next hole!

I'm golfing at my local par 3 course and just having a good time playing a round by myself. I'm on tee #4 and the green to tee#5 is right across my tee box about 25 yards away.

I'm lined up to hit a nice 8 iron after a solid first three holes, and I catch it off the toe of the iron and it shoots towards their green where a foursome are putting!! The ball rolls the entire length of green inches past the cup, almost a hole in one, and lands in their bunker. Oh my, how embarrassing...

I say "Sorry" and one of them throws back my ball and then I re-tee it and nail the green. I mean seriously...

I have to say that is probably one of my most embarrassing moments on the course... anyone else have anything similar happen to them before???

Ugh. Like last week I think? I put one on neighboring green in front of the A flighters at my club. Hey bros, mind if I play through?

DoctorQuquriramba 07-31-2012 09:27 PM

Before a junior tournament about 6 years ago, I was going all "Phil Flop" on the chipping green and skulled it into the clubhouse window. Luckily, it didn't break. No harm no foul.

Kamendoriks 07-31-2012 09:28 PM

I've been next to a green several years ago, but not on it.
The good part is you "nailed" the green on your re-tee.

I was hitting an approach shot a couple weeks ago and sliced it pretty bad... I landed on the tee box as people were driving up to hit.. They went ahead and let me hit and luckily I put it on the green from there

That happened to one of the high school team guys playing on our course, he hooked the ball into a neighboring par 3 and made a hole in one, but on the wrong hole haha he was all happy but it didn't count, wrong hole. . .

A guy we know actually did the same thing a few months ago except his went in the hole. There were 4 guys on the green too. Too funny!

HAHA I got a good laugh at that. Did same thing in league earlier this year. Hit one off the hosel and went on the fringe of the green on the next hole. The other group was about 50yds out pitching.

A guy an old roommate worked with (he was a tour pro in the early '70s) was playing in the Missouri Juniors with Tom Watson and did this. He was jumping up and down celebrating when Watson tapped him on the shoulder and told him "The hole is over there". So it wasn't that he happened to hit it onto the wrong green, he was aiming at the hole on the wrong green!

I've done this a couple of times but luckily nobody was near the other green.

Same thing happened to a guy playing in front of my foursome a few weeks ago. I posted about it in the "funniest thing you've seen on the golf course" thread. We were walking up the #5 fairway while this guy was teeing off on #6 (a par 3). I didn't see his shot, slice or shank, but it came rolling out from the trees, bee-lined for the cup and went in! At first we thought someone was practicing their chipping or something, and then this guy walks over from the #6 tee and waives. He was looking all around for his ball, and I finally yelled at him "Its in the hole!" He must have thought I was doing a Bill Murray impersonation, because he kept looking for a second and then said "Really??" He tip-toed over to the hole, picked up his ball, and we all yelled "HOLE-IN-ONE!!!!" and gave him a little golf clap.

Play in our Booster club tournamnet last year at the local country club. It was my first time swinging a club after my surgery. The BC president and secretary at the school pull up to watch us tee off. They are literally at like 10 o'clock behind me. I am lined up to tee off and when I swing and make contact with the ball, I hear a loud bang. I look and some how I have hit the cart that these 2 folks are sitting in......BEHIND ME!!!! I have no idea how but it happened. We couldn't tee off or play the rest of the hole for laughing....

Not quite as bad as a hole in one but I did slice one pretty bad Saturday that made it onto the green of the next hole (beside the fairway of my hole). The guys ahead of us see the ball and I guess assume they hit a much better shot than they did so they played my ball then found theirs on the backside of the green in bunker.
I tried to apologize for messing up their hole but couldn't catch up to them. I did find them at the clubhouse after the round and they said they weren't sure who it belonged to but they were sorry for taking my ball. Strange turn of events, they thought I'd be ticked off.

There is a par 3 green on my home course that is like 250 yards and to the left of a par 4 with a massive dogleg right....cant tell you how many times I have been either on that green or in a greenside bunker with my tee shot from the wrong hole

I'd have been peeved with them. They should be checking marks before playing it.

A few weeks ago a friend of mine and I were playing a muni and he sliced his tee shot. A group the next hole over, play his ball and then can't find where they shanked it to so they replaced his TP5 with a budget ball, I'm sitting here thinking... ok you played a marked TP5, that A) Wasn't your mark B) You don't even have a TP5 to replace it with??

We shrug it off and don't let it ruin our round. One of the two guys we were playing with just couldn't let it go. He complained about it for the next 9 holes. Then the same guy who decided to hold the grudge and complain about it ended up playing my ball. I draw a big black circle around my entire ball so no matter how it lands you see part of the mark.

... I just don't understand sometimes http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/banghead.gif

Sorry to get off topic on a rant but that jived me the wrong way.

#2 at my course on white side, bends to the left, I snap hooked a ball so bad it went flying over to the #8 green where someone was putting, I yell 4 and he literally with putter in his hand had to jump over the ball as it went screaming over the green.

Best part was I made par from there after a huge 3 wood back on to my fairway lol

WUlcN1Rz 07-31-2012 11:13 PM

On my home course the 7th green is only about 230 out off the first tee if you hit a slight hook. There have been many times I have hit on to that green and had to apologize. That is where I first learned the official rule that you have to take a free drop off a green if it's not the hole you're playing.

N95FzmMw 07-31-2012 11:31 PM

That can't be fun....

Markdogas 07-31-2012 11:47 PM

The number one green is about 200 yards away from number 2 tee off, and on the the right. There have been several times I've sliced the ball and stuck it within a few feet. Thankfully, I have time to yell fore before it gets there. Most people just comment how close to making it in the cup and laugh with me.
