Default Took my son out for 9 holes yesterday.
After going to the range a few times with my 18 and 15 year old sons and seeing that they can hit the ball pretty straight and just as far as me, I decided to take them out to the 9 hole course Sunday morning. Well 7am rolls around and the 15 yr old is up and dressed already while the 18 yr old must have been up late, he decided he didn't want to get up that early. So me and the youngest take off to the course.
A little trash talk from him on the drive there turns into $1 a hole (my idea). What a great couple hrs it was! Surprisingly I was able to handle the frustration of watching your golf parnter shoot a 10 on hole #1. I was thinking "This is going to be a longg 9 holes". But he actualy starting hitting ok, ended with a 60 on his first ever 9 holes. He even beat me on 2 holes, so he only owes me $7.
Most memorrable thing he said all day "This is a lot harder than I thought it would be dad". That's an understatment son, now give me my $7.

Next up will be getting them both out there.

60 is right around where I started. Insanely easy course though. Keep em motivated and make them love it!

Cool. I wish i could get my son to play, but unfortunately he has no interest in sports. He's 13 and 6'1" and it kills me. He does good in school and is a good kid though. Everyone's got their own thing.,

That is great! Actually bought my son a teen set when I was going through the whole new bag remap in March. He just turned 11, but is already almost 5'2". Plan on taking him to the range this week. Hope he and eventually they stick it out for you, could be some really great times ahead!

Nothing better than being on the course with your kid.

Played my last round with my 15 yo who just started playing - this was actually his first time playing and keeping score. We have played on an actual course twice before this, and he has had 1 lesson. We played a 130 slope course, and he played from the same set of tees as myself and MikeT, and he shot a legit 119. He hasn't had anywhere to actually practice putting, so he needs help there - he hit 3 GIR, ( i only hit 4! ) but 3 putted them all, and he actually had a couple 4 putts. Think he had like 42 putts, but I told him we will get that straightened out! He actually told me yesterday that he would like to get a putting lesson so he doesn't embarrass himself or me!( We are both going to get one lol! ) I told him golf is a tough game, and as long as you are out there giving it all you got and staying focused, no way would you embarrass me! He has a very natural swing, and for a 5'5 135# kid, hits the ball close to the same length as me - and he is using hand me down clubs!

Sorry for the run on - just a proud papa!

Good stuff, most people never can appreciate how difficult the sport is until they are immersed in it themselves.

Wonder if he will catch the bug? That is how it all began with me...I went to the driving range with dad when I was younger from time to time, always thought golf was lame. A neighbor of mine asked if I wanted to go play 9 when I was 13 (he was 14), and his parents took us out to the course. The course we played was actually my home course for our high school team, and it was a 4 star Golf Digest course, so not exactly easy. I fell in love that night and couldn't get enough. Less than a year later I made my high school golf team, and quit baseball/basketball/football to focus on golf. A year after that I was top 3 on my team and playing in junior tournaments, and a couple years after that I was scratch. I loved it and couldn't get enough of it.

My 2.5 year old son asks me if he can come with just about every time I put on my Srixon hat, but I probably will wait a couple more years. I do take him to the putting green. I can't wait to see him whip me on the course some day.

Sounds great. This is exactly me and my dad growing up. Especially funny now that I do beat him it's like "listen you little ****, you remember who taught you" haha I joke with him saying "dad I'll buy your rounds if you continue to let me win, deal?" great to have father and son outings on the course

Sounds very familiar... My dad always wanted me to play! But I played a sport each season, and baseball was my first love. Thought golf was goofy. Still remember the Masters coming on TV with the Barry White Unlimited Orchestra "Loves Theme" music. Didn't get it then for sure. Looking back, as good as an athlete that I was, I wish I had taken it up! Funny thing is, whenever I hear that song, it always brings a smile to my face. Wild how you remember things that at the time you never gave a second thought too...
