Default Standardized Iron Lofts Poll
So, companies can come out with stronger lofts and call their product "longer",
in your opinion should irons be standardized to certain lofts for each iron?

I vote yes

It makes sense in a way to be able to compare apples to apples a little more easily, but I would hate to take away the creative freedom from the companies as we need and love more innovation. Tough call....

They should imprint the loft on their irons and let them call them whatever they want!

But there are other variables besides the loft (shafts).

There's too many companies to be able to tell them what loft a 5-iron should be. But they should be required to make it easy to find out the lofts. Some manufacturers lofts are hard to find.

I answered that they can do whatever they want. I don't care what number is on the bottom. I just want to know how far I hit each club.

I am a fan of letting them do whatever they want, as long as the information is available to the consumer..

I kind of like stronger lofts anyways, so it's nice to have that option in some clubs as a standard..

Let them do what they want. Shaft physics and clubhead weight distribution have as much effect on trajectory and distance as loft does anyway.

It kills one of the guys I play with when he has to take a 6 when I am using a 7, that is why they continue to make the lofts stronger.

now are you also going to standardize their manufacturing tolerances so that they all don't just lie about what loft each club is?

are you going to standardize how they measure also?

I don't think it's really worth it to try this. For example, I ordered new irons last year, and the lofts were stronger at the back end than I was used to. So, I cut out the 3 iron, adjusted my 4 5 and 6, and order a gap wedge. Lofts really don't need to play that big of a difference since most can be adjusted within certain tolerances everyday. Ping will let you adjust any iron up to 4* difference either way, according ot their website. Not sure about the others. I would be more concerned about getting the shaft right, then adjusting the irons if you need to. Or just use a different club for the same distance.
