I always find one or two lies per round that make me sweat a bit thinking about how to hit them.. I finally used my brain long enough to snap a photo of it and thought it'd be fun to discuss how to hit out of different difficult lies..
![]() The green is to the left here. About twelve yards of apron uphill, before the green. A max of about 20 yards to the hole. My decision: I dropped down one wedge to a 54 and hit down and behind the ball, trying to hit it low forward enough to bounce off the fringe. Instead, it hit too low on the hill and stopped just short of the green. Almost!! How would you hit it? |

Good thread Canadan, I like the hybrid ideas but I've never practised that shot so I would not attempt that. I would probably take my 54* wedges, open it up a little and hit it like a flop shot. |

The biggest issue with the hybrid for me, is that if I catch it hot, it would roll through the green, which in this case = a creek. |

If I feel that I can get a hybrid on it and the line is conducive to a bump-n-run, I'd do that. Otherwise, I'd eliminate the split lie from my mind and treat it as the typical explosion shot from the rough. Open the face a bit, aim a little more left, swing more vertically. Think swing arc to look more like a "V" than a "U."

I had that exact lie in my match last Thursday, with the green about 20 yards in front and to the left of my position. I pulled my 52 and tried to go underneath and pitch the ball up to the green, but I s-worded it to the left and lost the match as a result. should have bumped it with a hybrid or a low iron.
