Default I done!!
After three absolutely horrible rounds of 97, 98 and +100 I'm done! From the low to mid 80's to this, I just can't take it anymore so I am putting the clubs in the corner and not touching them,
for at least a week

Sometimes I think a break is necessary. I see it happen all the time. Then, dudes go to the range to "fix" things and only make things worse. Eff that. Take a break, get some fresh perspective and you'll be back out there in no time.

Just keep playing more golf. I haven't hit on a range this year. Playing golf and everything that comes with it is what helps one improve. Well, second to getting lessons.

Yeah one thing I have noticed when I finally said "OK I'm just gonna get a lesson and let a pro tell me what I'm doing wrong" was that it was NOTHING that I thought I was doing wrong. I thought it was all in my backswing, and here it was my downswing. And then I can take 20 swings on the range and hit 18 of them perfect, and then my first round out I did not feel comfortable at all. Yesterday felt a little better than the round before, and hopefully it will be even better today. But I am noticing that it is taking time on the COURSE to get it worked out and not the range. The lesson definitely helped and I plan on getting a couple more just to work a couple kinks out but I can't figure it out on my own on the range, even when i record my swing it looks good. But once I get a lesson and find out what the problem is I just need to get some course time in to make it comforable on the course because thats the only way its gonna get better.

I feel your pain, I used to shoot consistent low 80's and now I'm lucky if I shoot 95. I do know what my problem is though and it's having to take 4 seasons off do to a couple of shoulder surgeries but this is getting ridiculous. I just recently went and took lessons too to help fix my problem and looked awesome at the range with the pro but sadly can't transition that to the course and have actually been shooting my rounds worse. My main problem now is I'll string together 3 or 4 decent holes then follow them up with 7's and 8's for a couple holes. This game can truly frustrate the hell out of you sometimes and you really need to cool the head off to play right. Good luck with your game.

Drink more it makes everything better.

No sometimes breaks r necessary or just a big fun outing where you don't worry too much. It is amazing what can happen when you stop pressing.

My personal recommendation is, not only do you take the week long break, but you also not turn on golf channel or watch youtube instructional videos, etc. I find that a break is good if you completely empty your mind of it. Good luck!

Does that include turning off THP?

It's all good, just had a really bad week, although I am not touching my clubs(I think) until Saturday when I will play just for fun with our mens prayer group.

Step 1 is to identify the problem(s). This can be accomplished several ways. My personal feeling is this is where teaching pro's are worth their weight in gold. I also am coming to believe that for most of us recreational players tinkering with our swing is a BIG mistake, we don't have the knowledge or skill to accurately diagnose - much less fix - something so we make it worse.

Step 2 is to fix the problem.

Step 3 is to take it to the course.

I fully appreciate that for many people steps 2 & 3 are blended, they get better benefits this way. I have been giving this topic some thought and I lean toward spending time on the range reinforcing the corrections and building up muscle memory. When I get to the course I want to be thinking about strategy, course management and scoring, not swing thoughts. Finally, I agree with others that a break is important because frustration can get in the way of fixing things...plus, this is supposed to be fun

Hang in there and good luck!

I think staying away for a week is a great idea - I've done it many times. After I lay off golf for a while, my first few times on the course are pretty good. I don't have a lot of expectations, and just try to swing, make good contact, and not worry about all that stuff that was clogging up my game, i.e., distance, scoring, etc... I've had some of my best golf days after a layoff.

Hoping you enjoy your next round(s).

You just need to get cookie out there with ya to fix your game! Hitting it this weekend after about 3 weeks off. Looking for something good to happen.

I know how you feel bro....I was playing bad and let it get me down, then remembered that I play for fun and went out and shot a great round. Just quit stressing and have fun!

I'm struggling with some demons myself --- my swing is gone - now i am overthinking everything to the point that I can't even hit a PW with confidence -- soooo many swing thoughts and "corrections" that it is making it worse with every swing. The slice with my driver I got rid of two years ago has also worked its way, quite suddenly, back into my repertoire ! Sooo frustrating at times !

Take a break. As someone that has also called a self imposed 2 week penalty on themselves, I understand and I am there right now. I am almost a week in and haven't touched a club yet. Wednesday, I am going to the range to try to sort some things out and Kelly is going to spend the day with me, videoing my swing. I am trying to make myself go in with lowered expectations and will try to keep my head up and plugging along, even if my swing battles are still there. Good luck man. Don't give up.
