I love my RF getups but I sometimes feel awkward when playing with random older gentlemen cause I am just wondering what the heck they think of my clothing. But then I let my game speak for itself http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...lies/alien.png

I don't dig his look at all - especially the hat. When I see that flat brimmed hat, I immediately think of rappers (although down deep I know it's a motorcross hat) - I'm a guitarist (80's metal - thus I'm required to hate rap music by association & have an aversion to that style hat), and a nascar fan (won't see a single flat brimmed hat in a sunday racing venue of 100,000 fans), and an ex-baseball player - we used to take pride in getting the perfect bend to the brim of our hats ... don't dig it at all, sorry. He needs a haircut too ... unlike, um, Rory with his new tight haircut. Now, there's a more traditional young guy with a sharp image who represents what a golfer should look like (NOW GET OFF MY LAWN !!)

The responses I see are not anger or disrespect, but instead laughter and curiosity. To each their own.

I'm in my mid 30's and I think Fowler looks like a complete asshat
that being said, the level of skill he has allows him to dress how he wants when fat guys and kids who can't break 90 now think it's cool to dress like him... that's where it falls apart if you're going to dress like an idiot, you better have the game to back it up. |

With regards to the original post, I have to ask- Is "anger" really the right word? "Extreme" anger- really? I don't think I've even seen outright disrespect toward him. I don't think he deserves any more or less respect than any other golfers on Tour. You like him, great. You don't have to support the players we older folks like any more than we need to support Rickie. |

so if I can't break 90 I have to wear "regular clothes" not something I bought or something I like? |
Just shave that darn mustache.

I don't think it has anything to do with his clothes, I think most people were just sick of all the media hype for a kid that was all show and until this weekend no go

I'm 54 and very likely considered to be in the "older generation" of golfers. I've been at this game since 1965 and still love it. The way Rickie Fowler dresses is fine with me. Actually I sort of like it. Over the years golfers in my opinion have always dressed on the edgy side of style, bright colors, strong patterns, knickers, Hogan style hats, etc.
As long as the attire is "professional" and somewhat modest, I'm okay with it. By the way, did you watch his interview with Golf Channel? Rickie had a flat brim hat on but it was turned completely around. Still looked okay. However, I wish he'd shave. The facial hair just hasn't matured like his golf game has recently. |

With the "older people hate flat brims" thing, I do agree. We played a course the other week and some older gentleman came into the club house when we were paying and LITERALLY took the hat off my head and bent the brim and said "that's how they're meant to be worn, kid." I swear I could have punched him right in the teeth, but instead I said in the most sarcastic tone I could, "thanks pops, I forgot." |
