This is why I am a bit hesitant to play an 18 hole course. I just started playing and am terrible. Shot 128 my first 18 hole round. I don't want to slow up other players but unfortunately, my ball striking isn't there so it takes a while.

Don't be so hesitant. You gotta learn to play at some point. As long as you let golfers play through it usually isn't an issue. I'm not really complaining about the slow play. It happens almost every round at one point I'm more frustrated at my weakness mentally with allowing it to affect my score negatively. And good info Hoosier. I really need to take some different approaches to the game mentally. I have with my putting and some of my shots. After reading Bob Rottellas book and it's helped tremendously. Just wanna keep improving and I never knew I could do that by being more mentally sound. I always thought if I just worked harder.at the range that would do it but when you get better and better it's really way more mental and course management than anything else.

Hi overkil2. I, too, am a newbie and play with my very patient (with me, not slow peeps ahead of us) bro-in-law very week. When I first started last July, we played 9. It took me a month to be able to go 18. Additionally, he plays from the tips - being a gal, I play the forward tees. I go to the range 2-3 times a week on my own to help the ball striking so that when on course it's not such a bloodsport

When I hit a pooper (those nasty 20 ft oopsies) I just walk up and hit it again while he goes to the cart and drives up to fetch me thus we keep moving. Have rarely been "played through".

My score goes down a couple stroke each week... Don't worry about the other folks on the course. Be courteous, but play your game at your pace, go practice, and most importantly - enjoy yourself.
