I picked play but it better be cheap for those conditions.

That's part of the reason why I got a membership. I know I'll go enough times in good weather to make it worth how much I'd have to pay (only have to go about 20 times) and if there are any times where the weather is a bit questionable I'll go out since it's not like it will cost me any extra

Well the man above answered the question today with 4 cm's of snow this morning. Ren is correct me if I'm wrong but Butte is semi-private. I have been thinking there and Claresholm and Paradise Canyon are on my list of courses this year.

Picture Butte does have memberships available but even as a non member it's not hard to get a tee time. I quite often had no problems getting a tee time even the night before there. I got a membership this year though and there are some advantages, plus I'll golf enough to make it worth it.

I want to play Paradise Canyon as well but watching the video on the site it didn't make me want to play it enough to justify the extra money vs Picture Butte or Henderson Lake at this point in time.

Hasn't snowed here yet but we are expecting 1< cm over the next few days

Play. Around here, the grass driving ranges are just as crappy as the public courses and I don't hit off of mats. If it isn't busy, play multiple balls, try different shots, etc.

A buddy of mine only wants to hit at perfect driving ranges instead of the so-so one right by us. My opinion is that "you dont get better by hitting in ideal conditions". Get good hitting out of crap and just think how good you'll be when you play on a perfectly manicured fairway. That being said...play!
