Default These golf expos...
I live near Cleveland Ohio and recently visited the Cleveland golf expo and was really disappointed. My main reason for going there was to try out new clubs since I was in the market for new irons. I had figured with the size of this thing, that I would be able to really take a look at all the new irons out there. I was sure that there would be reps from respective companies such as Titleiest, Taylor Made, Calloway, etc... But was stunned to find out that there was not a single rep there! There was a practice range with basically all the 2011 clubs and none of the new ones to try out. Has any one else went to these expos? Were you disappointed as well?

I've been to the Boston Expo a couple of times and was disappointed as well. I don't go anymore. A lot of used clubs for sale. The new stuff is there, but no more than you can see at the stores. Nothing special. It's been a couple of years, maybe it's better now.

I agree. I went to the show in Minneapolis last year and was disapointed. A bunch of used clubs and local retailers but no new clubs to hit and hardly any deals to be found. There were a few OEM's there but you had to pay to spend any time with them. This is why the THP demo day and outing is such a cool event.

The Chicago show had reps and hitting stations for all the big OEMs. The Milwaukee show did in the past. It's in a new location this year so I'll find out tomorrow. But we go for a variety of reasons, hitting clubs is down the list. We can do that at Golfsmith. There are always golf deals, we talk to the PGA junior tour director, and I see people I know from the SE WI golf community. Lots of clubs for sale, too, and you never know what you might run across.

I think a few of the other guys here said the show in Kansas City was a joke too. I have never personally been to one, but since I have been at THP!, I have heard more bad than good.

Nice! I'm originally from Chicago. Knew they could put on a good show. Cleveland showed why they are a second rate city! Browns... Cavaliers... Haha wait a second. I'm a Cubs fan so I have no room to talk!

Denver was disappointing too, unless you were looking for golf related trips...

I went to a show here in Niagara last weekend. It was the inaugural event and the companies present were MA-nine Golf (new), PING, Callaway, Mizuno, TaylorMade and Adams. I was real impressed with it and they had all of the new stuff.

Tomorrow I'm going to Toronto for that show and companies there are Cobra/Puma, MA-nine, PING, Callaway, Mizuno, TaylorMade, Adams, Cleveland/Srixon, and I believe W/S. That show is generally a travel show but the opportunities to hit new stuff is good. Michael Breed was supposed to be there but with his wife giving birth he is not attending. But Lauren Thompson will be... guess I have to settle.

This bums me out because the people who put on the Cleveland show are putting on the Pittsburgh show

I stopped doing golf shows years ago. The one in my area is nothing more than a place where everyone is trying to dump older clubs and clothes, and the people hounding you to sign up for something is crazy.

The only reason I went to the Seattle show this year was to find some cheap shoes.

Years ago the Cleveland expo (at IX Center) was much better, when I was in high school dad and I would ALWAYS go up and have a good time there - I chatted with reps, hit their clubs, and even had some free shafts sent to me after I impressed one of the Harrison reps on the Cleveland Golf launch monitor.

Then, it fell apart. They started charging for balls to try the clubs with, major OEM's stopped coming, and the club selection was dated. I found this out the hard way 6-7 years ago when it first happened, and have never went back since.

It's ashame because a lot of them are kind of a joke. I went to a few years ago and found it to be a waste of time. That's why I'd kill to go to the PGA Merch Show.

Next year drive down to Columbus for the golf show. The golf reps are always here and very helpful. Even when I lived in Madison, WI the reps were always there (Nike, TM, Bridgestone, Ping and Mizuno).

A small group of us go every year. I usually find a good deal or two on gloves, shoes, used balls, and clothing. It's fun to haggle with the vendors and if you don't mind buying last year's models, you can save some money. Hell, it's something golf-related to do in January in Ohio.

Denver Show had the OEM's there. I hit the new Cobra's and a few others. Only thing I found dissapointing was this was the 2nd year in a row the W/S wasn't there.

Some major manufacturers were there but not all had the latest equipment with them PLUS you had to pay for the balls to test the clubs!

For me, the golf shows are just a chance for me to try out the new clubs. I do find deals from time to time and enjoy the contests they have but for me, its all about the demos.

yeah my brother said the same thing, I did look at their website and you can see the vendor list and none of the big OEM's were included
