Learn when the leagues play, what days, what times etc. Play earlier, or play later that day. Pretty simple stuff. If you must play, ask the pro shop if they'll let you go off the other side if there's only a league on one side. It might not be that all leagues are slow, but that 30+ golfers on the course at one time will slow things up. But for any course, leagues are guaranteed $$$. On those given days/nights, the course can count on anywhere from a dozen to almost 40 golfers that are paying for carts, some paying greens fees, buying beer and most likely ordering food afterwards. So in the eyes of the golf course, the "damage" that leagues may cause is more than made up for in the revenue that they drive. "If you can't beat the league, join one!" |

I play in two different leagues and yeah somedays (especially the last week of each month. Special tournament format and more $$) it can be murder. I can understand outsiders looking in going nuts with our league. I"m only in it because in the end, it's cheaper every month playing with them than compared to playing by myself with a few friends. Both leagues take advantage of having 60+ players and can get a group rate. The tournament and competition is secondary for me.
By my house is this great course that has a lit par 3 course that I used to love going to after dinner. Now it's impossible to get that quick 9 in because they got leagues playing 5 nights a week and I can't remember what days are clear. I keep showing up on the wrong day and end up playing their putting course. |

The only thing that has really irriated me this year about leagues is the course I usually play during the week, I would goto on Mondays beause it's their "Mens Day" and green fees are 50% off. I went this Monday only to find they started a women's league playing on Mondays with tee times blocked from 3pm to 6:30pm. So much for Men's day and likely my weekly round since that course is right near work and always in good shape paired with a sub $20 fee. The other near my work they have a terrible time keeping up with mowing for some reason. I don't have the motivation to drive out of my way for weekday golf, so that just leaves the evenings on weekends. After my first run in a few years ago that I posted about above, I just avoid league courses on nights when I want to play.

you are not alone jnug, my league the last 2 years starts at 5:15 and wouldn't get done till, at its worst, 8:30. In our league it was the people, half on carts half walking, no one really cared that they were slow. Two years ago it was playing so slow, there was no need to hurry at all, my dad and me were finishing out on a par three with a group waiting to tee off on the next hole. We put the flag back in and started walking off the green, before we could reach the fringe a guy behind us hit and his ball landed on the green 20 ft away from my dad. I lost it, yelling back to the tee box and calling the ranger who did nothing when he got out there, the guy was a jerk, there was no where to go and he is hitting into people on a par 3. I played one more year and it got worse so I am doing my own thing this year, too much of a headache.
