I just started playing golf last May and it just happens that this was the first tournament I played in at my club.

Our format involved 10 people per group, groups flighted. I was the tenth player in the 12th group of the tournament. There were only 12 groups, thus I was officially the worst player in the tournament.

I wound up going out on the fourth hole of my flight. Carded a 10 on a PAR 5 (without penalties). Needed a 9 to force a chip off. Soooo much fun.

Our club runs this every year on Memorial Day. I have been looking forward to it ever since. The entire club is out in their carts (lots of private carts) following around all the flights. People are cheering on their horses as they have money on them.

Can't wait to play it again!

Default Horse Race Golf
Has anyone ever played in a horse race golf tournament? I played in one at a local course this past Friday and won. It was a ton of fun and VERY competitive!

If you guys and gals have never had a chance to play in one and there is ever one in your area, try it out! We had a great time!

Here is the link of a little generic info about it! http://www.ehow.com/how_7722631_play...race-golf.html

Pretty interesting format. Just out of curiosity, how long did the round take?

Never heard it called that, but I have heard of the format. Not sure I have the patience for the early holes with that many players, but it sounds like a good time for the right group.

There were actually only 16 of us.. so there were 4 groups that were split up! Two groups started on #1, and the other two groups started on #10! Honestly, it got a little confusing at one point, because there was only two marshals that were on the course at the time. But, it was a lot more efficient that way i guess! I enjoyed it

Man I would love to try this format out! Sounds like a lot of fun! I'd be pretty upset though if I was eliminated in the first couple holes though! This really emphasizes the "Play 1 hole at a time" mentality.

We run this event a couple of times a year: at the conclusion of our Spring Opening and a weekend "derby" event in the summer. We play it with 2 man teams, alternating shots. We limit the number of teams to a maximum of 16 and competition is played over 4 holes. 4 teams are eliminated per hole, chip offs are used for tie-breakers. By the last hole (#4, a par 3 over water very close to the clubhouse), there are 4 teams left to determine win, place, show and fourth. The race takes ~ 1.5 - 2 hours to complete.
