I was playing a twilight round by myself and on the back nine as I was approaching the second par 3, I started thinking about my upcoming shot. Then as I normally do on par 3's, a fleeting thought crossed my mind...it would be great to finally get a hole in one.
Then I looked around. There was no one within 2 holes of me (ahead and behind). The pro shop was a good 3-5 minute cart ride away. If I did make that ace...who I would get to confirm it? Golf is a game of honor so ideally the person who came around to confirm it wouldn't question whether I had made it or not. But I do know it would feel a whole lot better if there were witnesses close by. And no, I didn't make an ace today. |

I would still call it a hole and one.
I do find it funny that in a sport were the entire emphasis is on honor and on self policing that people would doubt whether or not you had a hole in one. I guess my question for those people who say "My group would never believe me"- who are you playing with (or who are you)? My guys wouldn't doubt me at all if I said I had a hole in one. I would hope they know me well enough to know my character and not just my golf game. |

There's a course here in Vegas called Red Rock. For 5 bucks you get a ticket. On the last par 3 (16th or 17th? I can't remember) you slide your ticket into this machine on the tee box and it turns a camera on. You make a hole in one you get $10,000. It's a pretty cool idea but I've never done it. Now my fear is getting a hole in one on THAT hole. To have to hear everyone tell me "if you only paid the 5 bucks......."
