Handicap Goal
When I began lessons a few months ago, I established a handicap goal of 15 which was an improvement of 7 strokes. I'm excited to announce that I officially reached that goal today (15.4 GHIN).
I am starting back taking lessons this week at least once per month. I am going to ask my coach what he thinks my next handicap goal should be. I want to be realistic. It may even go up during the winter but I plan to work hard to lower it even more. I'm going to really start focusing on my short game now. Do you have a handicap goal? It seems to really help me to have a goal. |
I don't really keep a handicap, but I do have short-term goals and rewards in place for them. End of last year my goal was to break 100 by the end of this year. Lately my work schedule hasn't allowed me to play more than 9 holes 2-3 times a week, but I have shot 50 or less the past 4 times I've played. Right now I'm playing equipment I've bought online, with the irons being the most expensive thing in my bag ($129). Once my short-term goals are achieved, I will allow myself to spend more on store-bought equipment I've been fit for:
- 5th time breaking 95 I will earn a new driver. Looking at either the Diablo Edge or TaylorMade SuperFast and looking to do this by the end of this year. - Breaking 90 will earn me a new set of irons, likely Mizunos and my time goal is by mid-summer next year. |
first of all, congrats KB! that's great stuff there. to hear you consider golfing in the winter tells me how serious you are (gray says you're a fair weather golfer).

Congrats on meeting your goal. I was once a single digit but my putting and short game feel apart and I jump up to near 16 this year. I'm back down to 13 right now with the goal of getting back to at least a 9. It takes lots of work that is for sure.

I think you are 100% right in that having a goal is the only real way to improve... My initial goal was breaking 100, then 90 then 80. Now my goal is to get to a single digit handicap. Having a goal that I am struggling to reach forces me to analyze my game and come up with a strategy to improve. For instance, breaking 80 ended up taking a whole rework of my swing, and now my single digit goal is primarily focused around improving my accuracy off the tee and reducing putts and increasing up and downs.

I've never really had a handicap goal. Back when I finished university and wasn't working full time I got my handicap down to 12/13 for a couple summers. I guess it would be nice to get there again (I'm probably about 20 now if I took the time to do the math. Right now my goals are non-numerical. Things like stopping that outside-in swing that often creeps into my game or finding a way to get my friends out to the course on a regular basis.

Good thread Kelly. Congrats on your success. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...ies/act-up.png
My goal at the beginning of the summer was to get my handicap down from about 25 to about 16. Now after some practice and lessons I have gotten my handicap down to 12.3. Now my goal is to get down to an 8 by the end of the season. This may be a little low, but I always aim high, or in golf's sake, low http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png |
try the VISION TRACK. It will have you striking it better than ever in no time

Single digets. Awesome you reached your goal!

That's great news KellyBo! Awesome going to hit your target so quickly.
My target at the start of the season was to end the season at a lower number than I started. I've got from 7 down to 5 just by playing and practising more often. It's tough for me to set a target at the moment, since we have less than 2 months till the end of the season, and there are limited numbers of competitive rounds left to play. Means I'd have to be breaking my handicap every week, and only coming down 0.1 for every shot I do that by. Doesn't help that I go up by 0.1 every time I play badly! Guess all this means that my target should be to finish the season comfortable with playing off 5. |

Congrats KellyBo! Now that I have some free time to practice, I'm going to shoot for an 11 by the end of the year.

Congrats KB! I know you have been working hard at it and I'm glad to see it paying off.
|
Awesome! It is great to see how the hard work and lessons are paying off for you and Gray too. I am starting my lessons as soon as the tourist season slows down a bit. Reading your posts inspired me to break down and do it.

AWESOME KB! Mine is at 11.4 and I know with how I'm playing right now I will have it at below 10 in a couple months. My goal is to be around a 7 or 8 by golf season in February.

My goal is to keep KellyBo from whupping my http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo.../deadhorse.gif on the golf course!!!!! She has done that a few times too many this year ...... Nawwww I am actually very proud of her and her dedication to improving her game. She has changed my mind about labeling her as a fair weather player. She has been out in the heat in the afternoon hitting balls! My real goal is to be a more consistant ball striker and better putter. If I can do this and manage my mind more efficiently through the entire round, I will be happy.....

KB congrats!!!!

Congrats KB. That is a big improvement. My goal is to get back to where I was prior to my injury which was about a 6.
