Sorry if there is a thread somewhere about golf injuries. I did a search and didn't find anything.
I've played 108 holes between Wednesday last week and this morning. I also went to the range twice and worked for about two hours each time hitting about 100 balls each visit. This morning I woke up before my standing Tuesday AM 9 holes when in LA and my right wrist was really sore but I played anyways (stupid, I know). Now it really hurts ![]() I've been googling sore wrist and golf and found a few things but I didn't do any of the causes I've found (ground club, over extending wrist during swing, over gripping club). Anyone else ever have this type of pain and if so, what did you do?! (please don't tell me I've got to give it weeks of rest..please don't tell me I've got to give it weeks of rest) |

I also have a nagging wrist injury that pops up after playing too much golf (though I never think I play too much) and labtop use. Turns out that my injury is a form of carpal tunnel. It flares up more if I spend more time at the range as compared to playing actual golf. I think this is due to the fact that I hit more balls in a shorter time span than if I was simply playing 18 holes.
Rest is good. What really has helped me though is a wrist brace that I can wear at night whenever I feel pain or suspect I will feel pain in the morning. It has done wonders. I only wear it about once a week and I hardly notice it when I sleep. I don't know if it will help with your injury, but it works well for me. |

With the amount of golf I've been playing this season I've seen a lot of overload injuries. I've experienced what you describe in both wrists, I've strained a muscle in my back and currently I'm going through what feels a bit like a broken rib, that I suspect is an overloaded tendon in my chest. Sucks to be sitting here. Great golfing weather and plenty of time, but can't play. Was getting slightly better, so tried a quick nine the other day. Big mistake. Thought the darn thing was starting to subside, but within just a few swings it was back with a vengeance. Guess I have to start some sort of training program if I wanna keep playing this much. Sigh, I hate lifting weights and such. I'd much rather be chasing a ball of some sorts.
On a more positive note, the wrist problems was really a minor issue, and went away within a day or two. Haven't had any problems since then. |

Thanks everyone.
Last night after I dumped my client off at their hotel, I went to CVS and picked up a brace for my wrist that has these supports for keeping the wrist in a good position. So far today, other than the weird typing with it on my wrist feels much better. I'm also icing it down a few times a day per some info I found late last night on the internet suggesting I had over extended the tendons, which if not treated and rested would lead to tendonititis. Not going to hit balls or golf until next week sometime to give it a rest (killing me) but I don't want to be out for extended time especially with the Fall Outing 7 weeks away! |

About 8 years ago going into my senior year on the golf team, I broke my wrist on the first hole of the season. I hooked my drive into the left rough and had about a 7 iron into the green. Little did I know that there was a tree root just in front my ball. Ouch.
I've been wearing a brace when I play ever since. Its not fun but I've gotten used to the nagging pain, and have been told it'll never completely go away. So things could be worse. ![]() |

Ice and at least a weekend off. Maybe some NSAIDS. Get the inflammation down before you try to hit again. Hopefully you haven't done any real damage yet. I did something similar a couple of years ago and tried to play with a semi-swollen sore wrist. It barely hurt at all, just felt overworked. Ended up tearing a ligament and had to sit for an entire year. If it is swollen then it isn't going to be able to move like it usually does and 1 bad chunk could ruin your day/year real fast.
