Golf Socks

I have an ongoing battle with my socks.

Specifically, I have several pair of "no-show" socks, that aren't really no-show. Looking at the kids at the U.S. Amateur (i.e., shorts allowed), some of those guys are either not wearing socks (not an option for me) or have true no-show socks.

Maybe my shoes are just particularly low cut and don't hide the socks well?

Anyway, what no-show socks have you used? What are your experiences with particular brands? What are your favorites?

Also, given that most socks are available in only black or white, what colors do you wear with which color shoes and outfits?

Harry,
I have the same issue. Most of mine are not truly no show. When at the amateur events around here, you would not believe how many people actually played with no socks. (just dont get it) I have come to just accept it. I have a couple that are borderline, but then I find the back of the shoe pulling on them.

I can't speak for the men, but women's socks come in a variety of no-show cuts - some of them cut very low like a ped. I have an entire drawer of golf socks in low cut, no show and the ones with the band - in every color.

Same issue here, the closest I've found are some adidas no-shows that I have but like JB said the back of the shoe will start pulling them down on the heel. I wear black socks with my black shoes and white with white. I've found that with the black Nike socks and black Nike shoes the socks are pretty much unnoticeable.

I like these because the tab keeps the sock from creeping down.

I don't mind the tab on the back, but the socks still come above the cuff of the shoe on the sides and top.

White or black socks with dark brown or medium brown shoes?

Excellent topic!! I have always wondered this myself. I buy no show socks but they almost always show a little. Then you walk around town and see 100 high school kids with these great socks that don't slip and don't show. I don't know where they get them. We shop at the same places. I know part of my problem is like to pull them up as far as I can for a snug fit so they don't slip down into the shoe. I bought some no show socks a few weeks ago and they only way they wouldn't show would be if they were not pulled tight. Don't like wearing bunched up socks so I gave them to my boy. I will admit that I am VERY picky when it comes to socks. They have to be just the right thickness and padding without being too think or thin, or not breathable.

One option I am going to try is to get the smaller size. Size wise, I should get the large, but the next ones I get will be medium. I will see if that works. I have in the past got woman's socks (plain white, no frills or pink patterns on them) and they worked out okay. The big problem there is to find plain white that are the material that I want. Most of the 'good' woman's socks have pink or purple or some sort of color in them I don't want.

Some body at the US Am was wearing something similar to those today, can't remember who though.

This IS a great topic. I've tried some of the adidas no-shows, both 100% cotton and the clima-cool polyester ones. Both slide down into the shoe. Most recently, I purchased some foot-joys with the tab like the ones Harry mentioned (although I think the FJ tabs are smaller than the Nike ones). They work great and are now my socks of choice. They do show a little, but they're pretty close.

I would go with white for any shoes other than all black.

For my golf socks, I generally buy socks that are a touch small and then I get the no show effect.

Great topic and I have the same problem everyone else does with the "no-show" socks. It grosses Diane out, but I used to go without socks and much preferred it. However, the shoe linings must have changed over the years because they are not as comfortable now as they were before without socks. Still, I hate socks that are higher than the top edge of the shoe.

The other problem I always have is that men's socks are always too big for me and ladies are too small. They just do not make men's socks for us guys with smaller feet. I don't want a bunch of extra sock wadded up in the end of my shoe.

FYI: Those Nike Tab socks also come in khaki, but they can be tough to find.

I got this question last week from an emailer and contacted Nike and adidas and they both had the same response. Look at the junior socks. They said that many brands have lines for men and lines for juniors. If you can find those, check them out.

Good grief!

I never knew so many people had the same sock issues as me. I thought this thread would get completely ignored!

infinkPoode 08-27-2009 02:00 AM

Some threads are like group therapy - once one person confesses - everyone does.
