GC-it seems as though you really do love this game. You're active in the forums and are probably a lot like all of us, addicted! Some folks have more natural ability than others but you are doing everything that you should be to improve. I don't have the resources to play/practice as much as i want to right now but it's imperative that i get a club in my hands everyday. Even if i'm just swinging in the yard or hitting my foam practice balls or rolling putts around the house, i want to touch a club everyday.

keep it up, you're on the right track!

My improvement is an ongoing process with many highs and lows. I enjoy the highs and sometimes laugh at the lows. One word of advice is to never think you have this game figured out because as soon as you do it will throw you a curve ball. I have been playing a little over two years and early on (probably in month 3 or 4) I had a great round and everything just clicked and I actually thought to myself, this game isnt all that difficult. Why did I say that..my playing was really, really awful for the next month or two. It is a humbling game we all pursue as a passion and the key is enjoyment. If you dont enjoy it, it will drive you crazy.

No need to put yourself under a timeline for improvement. Set small incremental goals and have fun with the journey.

Thanks. This game gets a lot easier when you understand how the golfswing works.

I've been golfing with a handicap for 5 years now. and it has only gone down 5 strokes. Like everyone else says, it takes time. Be patient, and you will get better!

But it takes longer to go down the lower you get, right? I bet if you had kept a handicap before, it came down pretty quick to the point you got to 5 years ago. Someone who is a 30 would conceivably get down to a 25 or even 20 quicker than a 10 would get down to a 5. (If both were making a serious effort to improve)

I took sixty strokes of my game in about 5 months. Now that it's around 100 it has become way more difficult....

I played 3 years before truly dedicaating myself to getting better a year ago - so in my 4th season I began lessons every 2-4 weeks, vs maybe 7-8 in the 3 yrs prior total.

I have as put much time and effort into it as I could do into in the past year, range 1-2 times and play 1-2 times per week, and I got down from a 21 to a 15.

When youre really working hard and investing in lessons, its tough to accept that this game takes a long time to get good at, and the progress you see is usually a gradual upward slope, not leaps and bounds better with a quick fix.

Keep working, keep studying the game, and set realistic goals each season to benchmark your progress. That will keep all the hard work in perspective.

Golf is a sport. Golf is a 4 letter word. Golf will help you hone your scores at saying/screaming 4 letter words.

I am in a similar type of place. I am a perfectionist and my game comes and goes, but I am always glad that I am on the course. God invented golf and sex. It is amazing how similar the two are.
They are the only two things you can be bad at and still enjoy.

The quickest way to lower your scores ("quickest" being a relative term), is to work on your short game. Start out working on your putting, chipping, and pitching. I averaged 29.4 putts last season per 18 holes. I don't hit many greens but I chip and pitch okay.
