To join or not to join - that is the question
I travel for my job but not enough to not have a home course....options are:
- Top shelf Palmer course for $320/month, no initiation (until after the 15 month period) - Mid-range public course (decent shape, fun layout) - $165/month period. - Don't join anywhere and just continue to play around at the various courses in town and in my travels around the country. As a reference I played my 39th round of golf this past Friday. Of those 39, I'd say 3 were at the Palmer course and 8 were at the mid-range course. On the surface it seems like it doesn't make sense to join anywhere but the Palmer course promotional deal just seems to good to pass up (a year ago they were touting 40k equity memberships). |
Depends on what the other fees are. Are there any F&B? Do you have a cart fee or green fee still with your monthly dues?

I would go for the Palmer course. Its new and Im sure it would be fun to see it grow, im sure a lot of changes would come along with it later on though. I dont have a problem with F&Bs mins because I tend to eat and have a few drinks after most rounds anyways.

I travel quite a bit, and I find that your third option works well for me. I do have a home course that I play quite a few times during the year, but it is a muni course, so there are not any extra monies involved other than practice balls, and/or green fees. I tried the membership stuff a few years ago, and found I did not play any different, than I do at the muni. Plus I saved a ton of money to spend on other things more worth while. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...lies/clapp.gif

Yahtzee - Are you interested in joining the Palmer course after the 15 months are up? If so, this would be a good way to try it out. Do you like the mid-range course enough to commit to playing there more often? Is there a men's group that you would join or any other benefits to joining? Otherwise, what's wrong with what you're doing now?
