We have two holes where there is two separate tee boxes , #1 (a par 5) and #17 (a par 3). It's set up so there are five different tee boxes (on most of the other holes, there are 4 tee boxes - some of the par threes have only three distinct tee boxes), and on the scorecard it shows the regular tees with two different yardages (so those tees can be up or back). from time to time I have seen the "senior" tees moved back from their normal spot onto that tee box.

I can't say I've seen an alternate tee box up a hill.

It's one thing to move the tees to different boxes from day to day, but what Diane is talking about is having like 2 red tee boxes on the same hole the same day and you get your choice of which to use. That just isn't a proper setup under the Rules. I guess it's acceptable for casual play, but if I was in a small private competition with 5 or 6 foursomes and came to that hole, how do I decide to play it to be sure that everyone in the comp plays the same course?

You see what I mean... the Rules of Golf don't like that sort of option. It creates too much room for controversy.

I like to start with a par 5 since most people don't sit and wait because they are going for the green in two. If a group gets off to a decent start, I think it can put a bit of space between them and the group behind. I think #10 should be a par 5 as well, since I have seen so many courses back up at the turn. I like both nines to end with par fours.

Actually that wouldn't be so bad, because it still creates the gap, which might be accomplished anyway if courses would maintain a ten minute gap between tee times instead of trying to fill every space as well as the in between times too. It almost seems right to hit off #1 as soon as they are out of range, but you'll be waiting a few holes up anyway, so why do it?

I've decided that my favorite holes are the ones with elevated tee boxes. I always start on a good note.

I like to start out with a medium length par 4 of somewhere around 350-370 yds, don't like starting out on par 3's or real long par 5's.

And the more I play the more I despise long par 4's that play entirely uphill. For myself a 400 yd hole such as that may as well be a par 5 because there is no way in hell I will ever get there in 2 unless I play the ladies tee box & even then I may not.

We have one like that - uphill and then a dogleg when it evens out. It's a par 5 for the men, but a par 4 for the women. One of my friends has 7 HI and she rarely pars it. It's crazy - should be a par 5 for the women too.
