Default Too Many Equipment Changes ?
I love buying new golf clubs, any clubs, old, new, bizarre, component, it doesn't matter.

In 2009, I just realized how many changes I have made, and how the constant changes is probably slowing my improvement.

Drivers -3
FW woods- 2
Hybrids-2
Irons-1
Putters-2

I feel this constant searching for the holy grail doesn't let me get truly accustomed to any one club and get the most out of it. It also doesn't take into account the buys that are really useless, and of course, the dollars involved.

So, I've made an early new year's resolution that the bag is set, and to just get used to what is currently in it, for better or worse.

Guess I am not the only lunatic out there, am I?

BB,
As someone that tests different equipment every week I can tell you that it has had a negative effect on my game. Drivers do not normally hurt my score, but changing irons, wedges, and putters sure does.

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If the game is all about fun and you really like the new stuff, I say buy it. If you are looking for something to make your game better with each purchase then you may have an issue. While new technology continues to come out and make clubs "better" for many players, the constant changing WILL cause problems.

Ive learned that there is no magic club or "holy grail". No matter what club is in your hands, if you dont make a proper swing, you arent going to get good results.

Good idea, if you are constantly changing clubs then you will never make any progress. You can change out certain components of the bag, a new putter or a new wedge or driver but stick with the same irons for a while.

I heard a guy once say something to the effect "....it's your swing, not your wallet, unless you are purchasing qualified swing instruction. ...." Sounds like good advice.

I am with you!!! My bag is set for at least the next 12 months except for the driver position. I am going to upgrade that as soon as the driver I have had my eye on gets to a blow out price when the 2010's come in. Today I made my last club purchases for a while.

I have resolved (for 2010) not to purchase a new set of clubs. However, that still leaves me a couple of months withing 09. I have my mind set on the TM R9's when they come out and cant wait to test them to see if they fit my game. After that purchase I should be good to go and "plan" to stick with the clubs I have for a while.

I agree with JB. I've been one to change clubs as often as I change socks and never noticed an improvement.

Since I only carry 13 clubs I am thinking of adding the Cleveland Niblick that THP has given very good reviews about. Other than that my bag is set. I need to focus on my swing, not my equipment.

Part of the fun of playing golf for me is to try out different equipment. My garage looks like a well stocked golf shop and I will occasionally switch one or all of my clubs. Honestly, I don't notice a huge difference in my scores when I do it. Some clubs take a few more swings to figure out how to swing them for the best effect, but beyond that, it truly is the indian and not the arrow.
