Running on Empty.

Have you ever reached the point of diminishing returns with your game? You practice. You play. You think about golf. And your game remains stagnant.

Have you ever had to step away from the game to recharge and reset?

I stepped away for twenty years. Wouldn't recommend that length of time. I've discovered recently golf's not like riding a bike.

If you call consistent scores between 78-85 then my game is stagnant now. I do take time off away from the game. When I come back, it just takes a few practice sessions to get back to my normal scores. I thought I was going to take some time off when they reseeded my home course, but they are not going to do that I was told. 2 weeks at the most various times of the year are all I am away from the game. This week is kind of shot do to other family priorities, and I don't golf on weekends, so here is about a 12 day stretch I will not play. Maybe a few LW shots in the back yard.

I have played a lot in the last two years and have been playing well and scoring better than I have in a long time, albeit from shorter tees, but took the two years prior off. I had been shooting within a stroke or two of 80 for so long it made me sick. I could not get the ball in the hole. I fished for muskies instead.

It helped immensely. I came back, start playing with my Wife and Daughter as she was now older, worked on my putting, and I am the better player for it.

I probably could have improved my scoring by practicing putting, but the time away helped. And I met some nice people fishing and caught a few fish, one pretty nice one.

I'd have to say a bad a day fishing is a better day than playing good golf. I golf more than I fish because it is so convenient for me. Around here you need a boat to be productive fishing, and with the lake being so low, just launching, and retrieving a boat can be a real chore. Talking about "hot headed, impatient, idiots" at a boat ramp is a thread in it's self....on a fishing forum

You have that right. If you think slow play bothers golfers, you do not want to be the guy having trouble launching his first boat when there are twenty experienced fishermen waiting to launch behind you. They are not a patient or forgiving lot. They curse.

That's why I always just went fishing with one of the impatient guys. No need to buy an expensive boat that just breaks down all the time.

I can't stand the power boaters. First - they just moor together in the cove and do nothing, which is probably best because when they're out on the water - they're dangerous. They don't follow the rules about speed in the channel or anything else for that matter. Give me a sailor any day.

I do sometimes have moments where Im just feeling burnt-out on golf and I take a break from the a little while where I dont really think about golf.
It never lasts long though, usually after a week I find myself thinking about golf again and looking foreward to getting back out on the course.
For me, golf is such a wonderful escape from the day to day stresses of life that I honestly dont know what Id do without it. If it werent for golf, Id probably seriously consider getting back into racing motocross or Id seriously look into getting a motorcycle; so golf is a much safer outlet for my energy and escape from life's day to day stresses.
I know for a fact my girlfriend would MUCH, MUCH, MUCH rathar I be out on the golf course than to be on a motorcycle.

I have a boat, 16' open bow with a 140 hp merc I/O. Tops out at a blistering 40 mph & I only use it for pleasure boating as I despise fishing.
