Playing With Cheater Girl

How silly is this. We have a vanity handicapper in our group - she has a 23 HI, but really should be a 33 at the least. You know how women are though - no one wants to confront her so in outings strokes are adjusted to reflect her "real" handicap - she hasn't caught on yet. The general consensus is that she's only hurting herself, but no one wants to be in her group. We did confront her once and she cried. Did I mention that she's obese and thinks people don't like her because of that - not because she cheats. I think men are better at dealing with things like this.

We are probably better at dealing with it because we aren't as concerned with hurting another guys feelings. We would just tell him the truth, if he was on my team and I knew we could get more strokes if I told him how bad he really was I wouldn't think twice. On the other hand most of the guys I play with always try and convince each other that they are worse than they really are in hopes of increasing or decreasing the amount of strokes they get or give. Negotiation is king, lol

If the round has something on the line that is important, the other golfers need to deal with it, or just let it slide....depending on the circumstances. We have a guy who joins our little group from time to time who has some creative ways of scoring his game. Not a problem for the rest of us because even with his own scoring methods, he never wins anything as it is. 9 times out of 10 he usually winds up paying for all our stuff at the 19th. I think he even likes it that way.

Given that this is a vanity handicap, where is the cheating?

She is entering a score that is inaccurate. She doesn't count whiffs or penalties.

Yinekol 09-21-2009 12:01 AM

You're supposed to count whiffs? http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo.../confused2.gif http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo.../confused2.gif

Those are "practice" swings.http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...ilies/blob.gif

I would just FLAT OUT let her know that what she is doing is BS... but I am not all that concerned with people's feelings when they do stupid stuff. Either that, or I would demand that we play a handicapped match for some serious cash, then keep score properly and watch as she lost each and every hole only to end up being dormie on 10 and owing me some serious cash.

Did she do that today, and then the rest of the group members adjusted the score, without telling her about it? http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo.../confused2.gif

Our outing was canceled - today was just a casual round. We don't adjust her score although usually someone in the group keeps her score too just to see what it really is - there is often a 20 stroke difference. The event chairperson adjusts strokes on the scorecards during competitions.

Who are we talking about again, he or she? Anyway if he/she already used an excuse for whiffing then yes it's a stroke.http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png

Wow! I guess it is up to the event chairperson to have another talk with her then!

Oh ok, it's always a practice swing for me. I've never noticed if Smalls has whiffed on one.http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...ies/act-up.png

I thought it's only a stroke if someone else actually sees the whiff when you are playing under the "whiffs count as a stroke rule". Otherwise, it's not. Right?

I only take practice whiffs swings.

Forget it Smallie - you can't be in the diet contest since we're using the honor system to report weight lost.

But she is only cheating herself, obviously she never wins so the only one she is hurting is herself. Unless it's a team or couples setup & they are using handicaps, then he/she/it is hurting the team/other person.

Our outings do use handicaps, which is why the event leaders adjust for her. Hey - even though I've been known to cry - I can't deal with a crying woman unless it's something legitimate.

There is no crying in golf.
