I did leave a wedge near some green once, but it was turned in at the pro shop and like many people, I've turned in my share of found clubs over the years. But (knock on wood) I've never lost a club or had one swiped by anyone.

But with what drivers and putters cost these days, the one thing I won't do is use a manufacturer's headcover. I think that if you have some object covering a club that advertises "Scotty Cameron" or "R9 460", you're just tempting fate.

Think about it, at a busy golf course or driving range, how difficult would it really be for someone to walk by your bag and remove one of those clubs and keep walking? Think about how often we all leave our bags unattended to get a hot dog, use the bathroom, sign in at the pro shop or go get another token for the range? All a thief would have to do is dress like a golfer and wait for someone to leave their bag an go inside a building.

But a set of "no name" headcovers or one of the many novelty headcovers available will still protect your club from damage but no one will know whether it's protecting a $500 driver or a "K-mart Special".

Agree with your head cover scenario. I do the same thing for security reasons. Plus I don't believe in free advertisement.

Default Lost Clubs
Have you ever lost a club and never saw it again? Have you ever lost a club and had it returned to you which begs the next question: DO YOU HAVE YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER ON EACH CLUB?

I use the self-sticking address labels which The Humane Society sends out. I write my phone number on them and wrap them right below the grip followed by a piece of clear tape.

This saved me bigtime a few months ago when I left my four iron on the range. The pro shop called and held it til the next morning.

I have a question about this very topic. Yesterday when registering my clubs on callaway.com they said the were going to send me some complimentary tags for my irons with my name address and phone number on them. Do I actually add them to the shaft or where do I put them?

If they are like the ones I have seen, you stick them on your club shaft. Some even have a second step where you apply a clear protective label over the other label. A friend gave me a set of them that I applied to one set of irons. I have since stopped using them and haven't bought another set. I need to.

I got these also after registering my clubs. It took a couple months to get them but they look great. I put them on my clubs and have forgotten they are there because they just fit right in with the shafts. I'm hoping to never run into somene using the tag to call me but it makes me feel good knowing they are on there.

I lost my 6 iron at University Park last year on the 18th hole (yup the club was labeled with my name and contact information).

However - I did not realize it until the following morning when I was on the first fairway when I reached into my bag and realized it was missing (lucky for me I was at UP again). So at the turn I check with the starter and unfortunately no one had turned it in.

Shame on me for not checking before I left the course - definitely my bad!!

Where did you apply them at on what part of the shaft?

I put them right under the grip. The top edge of the label is touching the bottom edge of the grip. That way it wasn't in the middle of the shaft and catching my eye when I swing.

This is what I use. Works great. It's free other than $2.50 for shipping. There is advertising on the top (from a sponsor which pays for the free cost), but you can cut that off.

That site looks pretty good Short.

I had a wedge liberated from me when I left it. I need tags on my clubs.

Maybe some string going up thru your sleeves like our mom's used to do with mittens would be better?

I just use the free return address labels some charity or another is forever sending me, and add my phone or email.

Sure, that will work. But the golf shaft labels are nice because they are weather-proof, perfect size for around the golf shaft and don't peel. $2.50 for labels is not an issue, and I also put one on my rangefinder and GPS.

I left a 7 iron on a course many years ago and it was never turned in at the pro shop. That taught me to count my clubs when the round is over. I haven't lost any since then.
I hate thieves.
