Default Broken Club
Ever break a club when you weren't angry?

This Sunday, I was walking and playing at Dell Urich and had parked my bag about 20ft off the green in a hollow between the green and the next tee box. I putted out first and tossed my putter (gently, not mad) toward my bag so I could handle the flag for the others and it would be close to my bag when we walked off. I heard a crack when the putter hit, but thought I must have hit a hidden rock or something. When I retreived the putter, the shaft was broken about an inch inside the grip down towards the club head. I couldn't putt with it because it was like swinging spagetti. I will have to take it in today to have it reshafted. Weird.

I haven't broken a club in anger or otherwise to this point, btw, I only throw clubs in anger so if/when one breaks it will be because I am pissed.

Not yet. I've never thrown a club or slammed a club into the ground. Yelling usually relieves my frustration or anger on the course.

Yup – a few years back I gently wrapped my 5 wood around my bag – had it re-shafted. It was embarrassing and it was the last time I let this game get the best of me.

It was quite a few years ago, but I broke my TM 360ti driver during a tee shot. The clubhead snapped off just above the ferrule, sending the ball 200 yards straight down the middle with the clubhead about 150 yards behind it! It gave me a great excuse to buy a new driver. The clubhead was still in great condition, so I sold it on eBay for $30.

I would never throw or break a club. It's not the club's fault that you suck.

I caved in a couple of driver faces in my younger days. Did not know much about quality during that time. All I knew was I could hit this shaft/head combo a long, long ways, and still find the short grass a very high percentage of the time. Those are the only two clubs that I have broken with, or without being angry. I have put a few clubs in the deepest darkest corner of my garage, and forgot about them.

That's what makes us different...we each vent in a certain way....

2 years ago, I bottled up the anger at my my poor play in a company tourney until the 9th hole in which I put my first 2 balls in the water. My subsequent shot out of the rough went about 15 yards. I turned around and punched the middle of the golf cart. Little did I know there was a nice aluminum brace running right where I hit. you guessed it...fractured hand...

I was out of golf for 8 weeks while it healed...funny thing... I did play the back nine of that tourney at 40 with a gimp hand...go figure...

Now, when I get angry, will I thump a club in the ground....yes...will I toss one 20 yards...yes..will I scream on the course....no,will I punch something..Definitely not.

the short answer is no, I have gotten lucky and not broken a club up to this point....

I had a driver head fly off at the range once after hitting a ball, that was embarassing having to run out there and get it.

I also had a 3 iron head go flying off, I hit the ball solid and the clubhead went right behind it.

The only time I have broken a club intentionally was when I got my first graphite shafted club over 10 years ago. The shaft was extremely flexible and I hated it so I snapped it over my knee in order to never hit another shot with the club. Once it was reshafted it turned out to be the best club in my bag for many years.

I haven't thrown a club in anger since I was a teenager. Have never broken a club. I will cuss like a sailor at myself, when playing solo. I will occasionally slam my driver into the ground after a particularly poor tee shot - it's rare but it does happen.

I did not break this club in anger. I have done that and am not embarrassed about it. If that had been the case this time, I would readily have admitted it. I broke a SW against a tree once, I broke a putter against a cart post, I threw a LW in the middle of a pond, but this time I tossed my putter gently over close to my bag. No way is should have broken, I have done it literally dozens of times before. It just happened to hit perfectly to fracture the shaft. Probably a weak point and a perfect spot.

I'd be extremely PO'd in your case, C-Tech. I often toss a wedge like that so it's off the green and along my path back to the carts after chipping on a green. I can't imagine something like that happening on a gentle toss!

Haha, if I wasn't pissed before the putter broke I would have been when I picked it up.

Actually, I laughed. It was funny looking. I thought I might be able to grip down with one hand holding the broken place, but it did not work.

I never broke a club out of anger since I don't slam clubs, etc after a bad shot. But I did have the head snap off my SW a few months ago after a shot...worked out ok though since I was able to upgrade to something much better.
