One of those rounds

Ever have one of those rounds where you just knew the golf gods were having a great laugh at your expense?

I had one Sunday. It was like Keystone Kops, everything I did went wrong. I should have known from the first hole. I hit a good drive just to the right edge of the fairway. It took a hop and bounded into the fairway bunker. Directly into someone's big, fat, deep footprint and hung there just below the very high lip. My only option was to blast it out.

Third hole, approach shot hits a sprinkler head and shoots over the back of the green into an unplayable lie.

Sixth hole, ball lands in a divot. I fat it and it catches lower of two bunkers terraced up the hill towards the hole. Pin is on the front. I hit a Lob Wedge blast that looks good, but lands 2" shy of green, hops sideways and rolls into front bunker against back lip. I cannot play it forward, so I have to play a 2 ft shot backwards to get out.

Eighth hole, hit good tee shot down right side with iron to leave good approach. Ball kicks right and lands directly behind lone Ocotillo bush, no shot, have to pitch out.

Ninth hole, and this is the absolute clincher.....Hit ball down middle, leaving 280 in on par 5. Too much trouble, so I lay up onto a shelf 120 yards out. Only the ball hits something hard (I can only assume it was yet another sprinkler head) and bounds forward to end up on a downhill 30 degree slope. I hit a decent shot at the green, but with that low a trajectory, it runs all the way through to the back where I have another severe downhill lie in 3" deep rough to a back pin.

50 on the front, just like that. I did recover a little dignity on the back with a 42, but the damage was done.

I hate golf! Teeing off at 3 this afternoon.

I have rounds like that. We are suppose to have rounds like that...it's golf. Makes those better scoring rounds more special. When I play poorly I tend to laugh at my self, and still try to enjoy the moment. I know I have a better game, so that makes those poor scoring rounds ok. Sometimes with that type of attitude, I have been able to turn poor play into better play during the same round. Other times, I just grin, and bear it, figuring it is only 18 holes.

I played with some strangers up in Mesquite NV one time. They were locals, I was just traveling. I shot a 95 due to a horrible long game, and suspect putting. Plus, I had been up all night drinking free while rolling dice. Well these guys had a good laugh at my expense. Something along the lines of "big city golfers....". As it turned out I was paired up with the same gentlemen the next day. Shot a 78. This is the best one day turn around I have ever had with my game. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...lies/clapp.gif
