A Thirst For Knowledge

I have a group of women I play with regularly and we like the rules. By that - I don't mean that we're the rules police, but rather we enjoy figuring out what rule applies in every situation. We all carry rule books and will discuss the rules while we're playing. If we can't find the applicable rule - we either look it up online or I post a question here - then we share what we're found out with each other. I don't think that makes us anal DYNA - it's more a quest for knowledge or solving a puzzle. I know Fourputt and Harry are interested in the rules too, but I'm not sure about anyone else.

I'm confident I'm not as knowledgeable as most, but I like a set of rules--any set of rules--that have some underlying touchstone to them. That way, even if you don't know the answer to this exact set of circumstances, you can figure something out. You may get it wrong, but there's some rationale.

With golf, the touchstone is simple: play one ball from where it lies, from start to finish. I have a lot more to learn about the rules, but having an underlying premise helps.

Diane, I stated I wasn't ultra anal about the rules. That means if my balls lands on a gravle cartpath, i'm moving it. If it somehow manages to roll into a gopher hole, i'm not hitting it out of that hole, etc.

I play the game for fun & have zero interest in learning all of the rules. For those who enjoy that quest, great & more power to you.

I understand Dyna - I just like teasing you. It cracks me up.

Yeah, but I'd think you'd occasionally want more of a challenge. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...ies/act-up.png

I think some of the decisions are funky, but the rules generally are fair. I would like to see a few of them changed, but as long as they are the same for everyone, I can live with that.

By the way, if you had clear and compelling evidence that your ball went down a gopher hole, you get relief without penalty from that situation, so the rules sometimes work in a player favor instead of against.
