The Front & The Back
I almost always play better on the back 9 than on the front. I'm not sure if it's because I'm warmed up or just more relaxed. It's odd because I even play better when I'm very hot or tired. Do you play better on the front or the back? Or does it vary?

Makes sense that it should be the back nine after all the kinks have been worked out on the front side. Nerves have settled and IMO you're more into it.

Back nine. My first 2-3 holes are for nerves and kinks to be worked out. Back nine is usually when I've found my 'groove '
|
I just had a round of 48/37. Any more questions.:)

It could go either way for me. For a while though the back side would be the blow up side though. I put a stop to that real quick
|
Usually the back, I'd guess. But there is a course near me that I cannot remember shooting better on the back nine and I have played it more than any other course. I may have, I just don't remember.

Play better on the front 9 than on the back, trying to get a good start so I try a little harder to get a good round going. Problem I have is that the back 9 if I have a good round going I try and not to mess it up with a stupid mistake and then I start playing conserveative. Have found that a shotgun start is great for me (course I work at does this alot).

It varies, but is usually the front I play better on.
|
What's interesting for me is that I play the front nine fairly consistently, score wise, but it's the back nine that determines whether I get a good 18-hole score or not. In other words, my lowest 18 hole scores come when I play the back nine well.
Anybody else see that happen with them? |
TBH its all pretty much the same, either all 18 pretty steady or all 18 awful.

The back nine, sometimes by 5 to 10 shots better, I've broken 50 on the front just 5 times this year, while on the back, I've broken it 13 times.
|
I usually always play better on the front and blow up on the back. Yesterday a was a good example, 42 on the front and 52 on the back.
|
The front nine is almost always better for me.
|
Sometimes the course layout dictates which side plays better. I have played courses like Fred Enke where the front is just a bear with no forgiveness, yet the back is pretty benign. Then you get one like Glenwood CC where the front sets up pretty easy and the back will wreck your card because of the OB and tricky tee shots required.

I don't play too many 18 hole rounds, but when I do, I tend to play better on the back nine.
|
It's about 50/50 for me. It takes me the first three holes of the front to get warmed up, and into my swing routine. The back nine equalizer are the last three holes, where fatigue starts to set in...sometimes. At my home course if I can get off to a good start through the first three holes, I know I am going to have good round. I play my best golf, score wise, during the middle twelve holes. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...lies/clapp.gif

I make better swings before I get too loose and have time for my brain to get in the way of my swing (also one reason why I don't warm up on the range), so I usually have better front 9 scores.
Yesterday I shot 3 under par 33 on the front 9, my best ever 9 hole score, almost overshadowed by a 43 on the back. I was 3 under through 11 (8 pars and 3 birdies), then my brain died and it took my swing with it. I still hit plenty of good shots, but one bad swing per hole is all it takes to start a bogey run. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo.../confused2.gif |
