How Many?

Normally, if I am walking and carrying, I limit my ball stash to 6, 8 at the most. I figure if I can't get around 18 with those, I need to go home. Usually, I don't lose even one, but occasionally will dump one in a pond or hit a stinker too deep in the desert to even search for. On top of that, walking desert courses, if you walk near the edge of the fairway, you can come out with 10 balls in a round easily.

So, the question is, how many do you carry and how few would you be comfortable heading out with?

At least a dozen.

I ride in a cart, so my ball pocket is usually loaded up. When I walk I use a push cart so I don't worry about emptying the pocket.

Back in the days when I would walk and carry I would limit it to the 6 to 8 range. Usually I would have one in play, a back up in my pocket, and then 5 or 6 in the bag. Of course I would pass the car 3 times through the round so if I needed to reload I could.

At my regular courses now, I would feel comfortable with 5-6 balls total. I would probably play the round and not lose any, or just one or two, but wouldn't you feel stupid to be on the 14th hole and not have any balls to finish the round?

I do find it funny when I see people walking and carrying the bag, and they have 2 dozen balls throughout the bag. Eliminating golf balls is the easiest way to lighten the load.

I could do with six balls in the golf bag, and 2-3 in my pocket. I don't lose too many balls, and when I do replace one its usually due to scuffing or cart path bruising.

I walk and carry most of my rounds and usually limit myself to two sleeves plus the one I am playing with. For some reason I can’t stand to have a spare ball in my pocket. If it is a course I don’t know I might take an extra sleeve just for peace of mind but like you said C-tech if I lost that many I should go home. Overall I probably lose 1-2 balls a round.

I carry atleast a dozen.. Sometimes you just have one of those rounds.. :)

Sydneyfonzi 08-21-2009 05:08 PM

At least 8 but sometimes a dozen if I haven't played the course before

Pashtet 08-21-2009 05:40 PM

too many.....

I carry about 3 sleeve's worth of balls with me regardless of whether I'm playing 9 or 18. I don't put a spare ball in my pocket - I'm a "minimalist" when it comes to stuff in my pockets. Other than a ball between holes, in my right pocket there's only two tees (tall, short), a ball marker and a ball mark repair tool.

We feel exactly the same about having stuff in our pockets. I don't carry a spare ball either. I do carry a repair tool and two tees (both tall). If I need a short tee, I find a broken one on the tee box. I have a clip-on ball mark that goes on my visor.

I don't often carry my bag. I'll use my trolley if I walk, and I'll ride if I play with certain folks or it's crazy hot.

Because of that, I'm prety lax about just dumping balls in my bag, I'll dump in 3 dozen or so, I'll get concerned when there's 4 or 5 left (that many seems to last me a pretty good long time now, I used to have to fill up my bag every few rounds)

If I were to carry, I suppose I'd keep it around 10 or so.

I have 1 spare ball in my pocket, and the one in play. Otherwise I've got a divot tool and my pocket knife. I keep my tee stuck in my hat (silly habit, no good reason for sticking it there, it just works for me)

When I am not traveling, I will keep a couple of sleeves (6) in my bag. If I am traveling I might go with a dozen. Regardless of my scores I play quite a few rounds with out losing a ball. Personal best is 102 holes with out losing a ball. Personal worst is 3 lost balls in 3 holes. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png

That's why I don't use expensive balls. If that's your worst ever, that's not bad at all! I've lost three on ONE hole more times than I can remember. Most of my lost balls seem to come from a double-cross off the tee. When you don't know which direction your tee shot is going, it really sucks! At least I've got that corrected, for the most part.

I ride in a cart always, but usually only have 6 with me at the most. I cannot play with anything in my pocket.

On a Father's day back a few years ago, I played golf at a moderately difficult course in Tigard. One of my buddies was exhausted that morning. He's a police officer that worked a swing shift back then. He got home around 11pm, and tried to get some sleep, but his daughters had a slumber party that night. He ended getting only 3-4 hours of sleep.

He lost 17 balls that day. Luckily he carries a lot of the balls he plays - yellow Pinnacle Golds. Probably lost $20 worth of balls.

He did start playing better the last few holes, after he had 2-3 beers. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png

When I carried my bag, I took everything out of it. Encluding the extra 10,000 tees I some how aquired. My 5 pound bag was on a McDonnalds diet it just keeps getting heavier. With sunscreen, tee, divot tools, ball marks, towels, golves, balls, exgtra water ect..ect..ect. I finally got a push cart and said heck with it let it grow.

CGH1KZzy 08-21-2009 09:12 PM

Depends on the course, but between 8 and 12.

Loonerisav 08-22-2009 11:17 PM

I tend to play a variety of balls just to see how I like them. Sometimes will have as many as 6-7 different brands in the bag. I have had as few as 12 balls in the bag & as many as 4 dozen. I never ever carry so extra weight ins't an issue.

12 - when I get down to a sleeve - I'll put another 12 in .....
