Playing Alone

Playing golf with friends or even recent acquaintances is fun and bonding. Playing alone is all about concentration and execution without interuption. Is (socially) playing with friends detrimental to your game or do you need interaction and competition to bring out your best play?

I do both and really enjoy both. I play alone when i just want to get out there early during the week and try out equipment for testing. It does not affect me one way or the other.

I can't play alone. I get lonely out there and just don't play well because I focus on my game too much.

Lhtfajba 08-21-2009 12:23 AM

I'll play alone only if I can't find someone to go with. It's more fun for me, with other people.

You can really fly around the course when it's just you though. Hopefully people let you through when you come up on them.

I like playing both alone and with people. I play with others a vast majority of the time but occasionally I like to go out alone. I find myself playing alone more often the colder it gets because people put their clubs away in the late fall and winter. As far as performance, I seem to play about the same under both scenarios.

I can do both. I might play better when I am with someone, but not by much. I have my "sometimes" weekly play with my buddies. The rest of the time I show up as a single, and either play as a single, or join up with someone. In a few more weeks, when it cools off, those "fair weather" golfers will start showing up, and there will be more folks grabbing tee times. Won't be much single play going on till it gets too cold for them sometime in January.http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...lies/clapp.gif

I play better by myself, I would say it shaves close to 5 strokes off my game as compared to playing with my buddies.

Haha, not even. There is just things that get to me when playing with my buddies. Sometimes I can block it out and sometimes it just gets to me.

surefireinvest 08-21-2009 01:35 AM

I enjoy both for different reasons.

I know...I was just joking. I have had most of my best rounds when playing with friends. Its probably the competitive nature. But I have also had my worst rounds when playing with others. I guess I play up or down to the abilities of who I'm with. When playing by myself I tend to concentrate much more and take my time.

Dreqsqse 08-21-2009 01:51 AM

It depends on my mood, I play alone when I need to relax. Otherwise, I play with friends.

I agree. I enjoy the camaraderie of playing with other people.

I play both all of the time. I tend to play better alone but I think it's just putting expectations on hitting good shots in front of my buddies and it doesn't always happen that way. It's such a mental game.

I enjoy playing with my buddies however and I am definitely at peace on the golf course whether it is a great round or not, alone or with someone else.

mXr8icOB 08-21-2009 04:55 AM

I have never played alone but I would imagine that I would actually really enjoy it. I love having some 'me' time and I bet playing golf would be great.

LorencoLoricelli 08-21-2009 05:32 AM

I do some of both. I play with friends most Saturdays and some Sundays, but when I don't have anything arranged for Sunday, I will just get the starter to put me in with anyone. I almost always have a good experience and tend to play well with an audience of strangers.

During the week, I mostly play alone. I don't mind it, it gives me a chance to unwind without any pressure and enjoy the ending day.

weluvjessicaalba 08-21-2009 07:15 AM

Well I guess I like playing alone, because all 7 times I've scored under 100 this year it has been on wed's when I am at the course myself. when I have been with someone this year I can count on my game being about 10 to 12 strokes higher. I am able to focus much more being alone, less nervous, guess as my mental game gets better this will get better too. On the positive side the worst any round has been is a 109 (3x)

TravelMan 08-21-2009 10:22 AM

I end up playing alone more than half of the time. I enjoy the solitude, peace and quiet of the course (unless it's crowded, then being a one-ball can be just stressful). I also play with friends, usually on weekends. I don't mind which, as long as I'm playing golf I'm, generally, happy.
I would say I probably play slightly better when I'm by myself.

wmcelesta 08-21-2009 10:56 AM

As long as i am playing i dont mind if its on my own or in company.
