On my home course which is just a 9 holer, I have found myself only using a handful of clubs. Only 1 hole I ever need to use back to back irons on. Setup goes like this

Hole 1. Driver-7 iron-putter
Hole 2. Driver-PW-putter
Hole 3. 3h-putter
Hole 4. Driver-5w-GW-putter
Hole 5. Driver-pw-putter
Hole 6. 8-9 iron depending on the tee box-putter
Hole 7. 6 iron-7iron-putter
Hole 8. Driver-pw-putter
Hole 9. 3w-3h or 5h-pw-putter

I very rarely need to use most of my irons & it sucks. I have played this course in the past with just a 6iron, pw & putter & that is a lot of fun. Obviously other courses have different requirements & of course I could refrain from using driver off the tee & use a shorter club to force me to use 7-8-9 irons more often. But we all love to hit the driver even if we are bad with it.
