I've had guys tell me...we will give you that...I tell them no...I have missed 1 footers many times. Don't get me wrong. I ain't tootin' my horn like I'm speacial. It's just the way I feel about it. Guys in a group cheat all the time. Take mulligans, kick balls to a better lie...I don't care and don't judge them as long as they are having fun.

I think that's the right attitude. Typically I don't mind either, the only time it bugs me is when they start rubbing it in and I'm like "seriously!? You took 3 off the tee and you're recording a par..."

We generally play for a buck or two per hole, so it's pretty straight to the most part. If someone joins us that dosn't get to play often we usually let them fluff the ball and even steer him to place the ball in a better spot after mishaps just to keep him in the game with us, if he needs it.

If I'm by myself and practicing I may hit 3 balls at a hole or drop a ball in a bad spot just to practice, but am pretty good about recording the right score, if keeping score. I hate Muligans personally, but thank goodness I had them when I started out this year, lol

I certainly have, like others have said if I'm keeping score though I will write down every stroke. I'm also not above just saying screw it and not writing my scores down, usually if I have a blow up hole early in the round and have been struggling to put up decent scores on previous holes. I'll just decide that the rest of the round is all about making a few good shots.

My buddies & I will play "weekend" golf. hit OB take a drop where it went out same for lost balls. Also play "within the leather" for puts.we're just playing for fun & it keeps the game movin, not holding up a public course.

Ah, the lost ball. I'd like to get people's opinions on this one.

I know it's the rules, but it drives me nuts when a player loses his ball, spends their 5 minutes looking, then walks back to the tee. If I think a ball even 'could' be lost, I will hit a provisional. If by chance I don't hit a provisional because I'm pretty sure I'm going to find it, but then end up losing the ball, I will drop near where I think it should be after searching and hit away. Clearly this is for casual play.

Am I being too casual?

Sounds about right for me, as slow as the play is already there is no way I'm walking/driving back to the tee box.

No. I do the same thing. Add 2 and drop in the vicinity. It's silly to hit a provisional every time you miss a fairway and it's annoying as hell for the folks waiting behind you to see you trudging back to the tee after waiting for (at least) 5 minutes already. The rules gurus will jump you for this, but it's just common sense and courtesy to me.

If you are going to take two shots, do you just toss it out there or do you at least give yourself a good lie? If you don't, aren't you kind of double-penalizing yourself, since, there may have been a 50% chance your second tee shot may have hit the fairway? I mean, at this point the rules are out the window since you aren't re-teeing anyway, so if you lose your tee shot, take a two shot penalty, as though you hit three off the tee, what's wrong with making sure you have a decent shot for your next one? If you know it's in the woods, and there's a wide open space within a bunch of trees, do you put it there or take it out so you don't have to make a hero shot over, around or through the trees? Whenever I do the two shot penalty with no re-tee, I might not put it in the fairway but it's going to be close, at least on a fluffed lie.

Yup, that is what seems sensible to me.

Small, when I take two and drop for a lost ball, I will give myself a decent lie around the area where I think the original ball should be. At this point, it really doesn't matter too much, as I'm basically taking a double or worse and posting double.
