Default Swing Video Taught Me A Lesson
Well, I finally witnessed my swing on video for the first time last week and I cant get the image out of my head. The first thing I noticed was how I was coming over the top of the ball. All the while I thought I was more inside than that the film actually showed. The other thing I saw was that I have a chicken wing which I had no idea existed in my swing. This was truly eye opening for me. I realized then that lessons were in my immediate and long-term future.

I thought I was progressing at a good pace and I could see my scores decreasing bit by bit, but I think it was more luck than consistent skill and admit I probably did myself a disservice by not getting lessons up front. In the past two years since starting golf my scores dropped from the 115's to the mid - low 90's now although I still ocassionaly blow past the century mark. I am learning the game from a different perspective and having fun with the lessons and look forward to getting better the right way.

I think I am like some golfers and started buying equipment to improve my game. I used to joke with my buds that my golf swing was in a box or on a shelf at a store and I would eventually find it or go broke. It is sad to say that I have given a valiant effort but there is NO golf swing in a box, but beleive you me I tried to buy one. So, I am concentrating on more lessons than equipment for the near future and hopefully will build my own swing into something I can at least watch on film but man is it difficult to unlearn but I am committed to do so. Heck, I'm in too deep financially to quit now. .

I sent this out as a lesson learned to those who debate on whether to take lessons. Take them. If you dont, give me a call I have three extra sets of clubs I can sell you.

Cheers,

Keith

After reading the post above from Keith, I finally did it, lol. I video taped my swing. Ugh... pretty ugly. Actually my swing was the best part, but shorts do me no justice.

Really, great post Keith. It got me wondering why we couldn't post our videos for the club professional to diagnos. Or, have lots of club pro's take a turn.

I could see a lot of what was wrong with my swing, but just guessing that the pro could pick out a bunch more. What do you think JB?

I played golf about 3 years ago with my Son In Law when we visited in Maine. He brought along a video recorder and we taped our swings. It ruined me for a few days, but like Keith, I learned a lot about what my swing was actually doing. I did not get a lesson, I started working on fixing what I saw wrong. In the last six months, I have had my wife go to the range with me and videotape my swing again. It is much better now but I still saw some things to work on. I plan on having her go with me again as soon as the weather cools a little so we can get new tape to see how my work is going.

I believe in the value of video for monitoring your progress.

Thedue you can post your swing videos on this site for me to take a look at. Shoot some video from the back and then facing you so I have a couple of angles. If you take the time to do this I will take the time to break down your swing and give you some things to look at and work on. That is one of the benefits to being a member here. Post all of the swing videos that you want me to look at in the "Ask the Pro" thread.

Thanks Amollerud, don't think I'll send the ones from last night (a little dark), but can take some more.
