Default What Initiates Your Downswing?
I would love to hear everyone's key thought or first move to initiate the downswing. Some pull the butt end of the club toward the ball while others kick in the left knee while still others fire their hip. Some of you are probably such naturals that you have no downswing thought, but rather, just let it happen.

So please jot down a few words to describe what your thinking just before beginning the downswing or the mechanics that make that move successful.

I think about moving my left knee outside of my left foot. I think the downswing must start with the lower body.

slight shift of my weight forward and dropping my right elbow down....when I'm having a good round. when I'm not it feels like my left knee gets away from me and I'm all arms then....

"I hope this one goes straight!" is what I am thinking as the downswing starts. Actually I never have thought about what starts my downswing, most likely I would say firing the hips is probably my best guess. Never really been a mechanical player....

I'm a heel raiser. I'm old and that's the only way I feel I can get enough turn of my shoulders in my back swing. I mean at the top of the back swing I am stretched out as far as I can stretch...so all I have to do is set my heel down and it starts my shoulders to turning to the down swing. Also at the moment I set my heel down...that's when I shift my weight forward. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm still working on it.

When I am bored with the takeaway...I know its time. Then I look like a folding lawn chair or a full body dry heave and I know contact is coming. hehe

Pretty sure I don't think about it at all. When the backswing is done, then I start the downswing. I do think about how far I take the club back depending on how hard I want to hit the ball or what kind of shot I want to hit. The downswing just takes care of itself from that point.

Off the the top of my head I couldn't tell you what starts my down swing. The only swing thought I have, (and I don't even use it very much anymore) is to have my elbows some what level at the top of my swing. Most of my thought process goes into my set up, and alignment. (address position).

I would have to say the thing I think about when it comes to starting the downwing is to let the backswing finish first and then with a slight bump of the hips toward the target (which drops the arms on plane) I turn with the lower body and try to pull everything in sequence through the impact area...easier said then done. Hope this helps...

Thrust the rear knee forward to get it going. Or at least think about the knee, so the rotation comes from the ground up.

Word. Tempo is usually the first thing I check when it starts to go bad and it's usually the problem.

Usually a sense of impending doom.

Seriously, I just let it happen and I'm not thinking about anything once I start my swing.

You owe me a new laptop. My current one has coffee all over it. The coffee spewed out my nose when I read that line. There should have been a warning label in advance of that little tidbit....Too darned funny!!!

When I hear something pop, I know i've gone back far enough, and it's time to go another direction.

Kind of like one of those Roomba vacuum cleaners, it's got to run into something before it changes direction.

My downswing is initiated by my backswing. I don't consciously do anything to start it. I would like to think that I've ingrained that over years of practice.
