The 'Ulama and Emperor Akbar

I would like to know what was the stance of the 'Ulama during the reign of Akbar. According to the limited knowledge and reading that I have done on this I understand that there where 'Ulama who issued a fatwa declaring Akbar a heretic.

Can anyone either explain that portion of history - Akbar and Islam, or provide some reading material to read further into the topic.

And yes, Akbar essentially tried to create his own hotch potch perennialistic religion. That's why he fell into zanaadaqa, bid'ah and fahshaa'

Also - if you don't mind me asking a personal question brother - are you ethnically from Afrika as well? Don't think I have ever come across any African Deobandi brothers.

"Sufism and Shari'ah" (on the life of Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi ra) by Muhammad Abdul Haq Ansari also deals with it. Not for very long, but it's such a great book that I still advice you to get it! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...nnah_smile.gif
