Two school classes with children around 8-9 years are going to visit my local masjid soon. I will have to show them and the teacher(s) the masjid and probably explain something about Islam.

Now do you have any idea how to explain Islam to kids? It is obvious that I won't be able to do ordinary theological discussions, nevertheless I want to give them the message of Islam.

Well I guess you'll probably be explaining about what Muslims do in the masjid, the way Muslims pray etc. You could also talk about Ramadhan as it'll be coming soon, the way when we fast we remember those men women and children around the world who don't have anything to eat, even at night time. You could also talk about the fact that Islam accept people of all races and colours.

Take the children round the mosque for a tour, explain the purpose of the pulpit, staff, whudu area etc. If you have a madrasah attached to the mosque explain that children attend every evening to learn Arabic.

Additionally, it'll be good if you go through the five pillars, especially salat. Demonstrate the actions, call out the adhaan, children are very fascinated by this.
Also, if the children are present during a prayer time ( i.e. zhuhr prayer) let them witness the prayer.

It really depends on the type of children too. There are some children who have been brought up in certain locations where they have never seen a Muslim nor have any clue about Islam. Whereas, others live in areas where Muslims are seen regularly. Children ask innocent questions, I've been asked, 'But which part of the world do these people live in?' when I'm stood right in front of them.

What about some anecdotes about RasuluLlah's http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ilies/pbuh.gif way of dealing with children?
For example when his nieces http://discussworldissues.com/forums...lies/anhum.gif used to step on his blessed back while he http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ilies/pbuh.gif was in sujud?

This would offer a glance about the nature of RasuluLlah http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ilies/pbuh.gif and implicitly oppose the bad image given by media.

And don't forget offering them some sweets (it's Sunnah giving some food to children, isn't it?)!

Would it be permissible for them to join a prayer? (Of course having made wudu before)

Should I invite them to pray with us? Are 7-8 aged children still regarded Muslim or are they already "transformed" by their parents to kuffar?

I don't think it'd be advisable, because there is a hadeeth in mishkaat that says children are on the religion of their parents. Besides, it could be an issue with the parents of the children as well, they might get upset and say their children were forced into praying!

Children of non-Muslims parents are NOT Muslims; the hadith talks about the Fitra upon which every human being is born, not about being "Muslims".

in my humble opinion

keep mentioning allah

allah made us the world the moon the stars the oceans the fish the birds etc,use humour and smile

islam is a way of life which teaches us how to do everything from morning to night
to eat,sleep etc

how to live with people ,neighbours ,teachers

talk about good character,daily life

keep mentioning allah..allah
and mohammed s.a.w as the best human ever with references



i was with shamshisaheb once in jamaat,a local brother was showing none muslims around the mosque..the classic mistakes,the pulpit,the prayers,the carpet etc

I completely agree with sidi Ahmed, explain to them the Greatness and Mercifulness of Allah Ta'ala and the perfect example of Rasulullah http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ilies/pbuh.gif. That's what insha'Allah will astonish these children the most.
