Many groups of muslims claim that Beloved Prophet (pbuh) does not have knowledge of the unseen.
Ahlus-Sunna wal Jam'ah believe that Allah has given the knowledge of the unseen to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and that it is also permissable to say that our Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) knows the knowledge of the Unseen. However, let us make one thing clear. It is NOT permissible to say that Prophet's knowledge of unseen is equal or greater than that of Allah's knowledge. Allah is our creator and sustainer, he has knowledge over all of creation including Prophet. So that distinction must be made clear. Now you want proof? It is in the Quran and Hadith. 1. Allah Subhan Wa Taalah says in Quran: "He (alone) knows the Unseen, nor does He make any one acquainted with His Mysteries Except an apostle whom He has chosen: and then He makes a band of watchers march before him and behind him" (72:26/27) 2. Allah Subhan Wa Taalah says in Qur'an: Allah has sent down to you the Book and Wisdom and has taught to you what you did not know, and great is the grace of Allah upon you" [Sura an-Nisa, verse 113] 3. Allah Subhan Wa Taalah says in the Qur'an: "These are the tidings of the Unseen that We reveal to you in secret" [Sura al-Imran, verse 44] "Nor will He disclose to you the secrets of the Unseen. But He chooses of His Apostles [for the purpose]" [Sura al-Imran, verse 179] Hadith No.1 Narrated 'Umar: One day the Prophet stood up amongst us for a long period and informed us about the beginning of creation (and talked about everything in detail) till he mentioned how the people of Paradise will enter their places and the people of Hell will enter their places. Some remembered what he had said, and some forgot it. Reference ►Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 54, Number 414 Hadith No.2 Narrated by Anas bin Malik: The Prophet once climbed the mountain of Uhud with Abu Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthman. The mountain shook with them. The Prophet said (to the mountain), "Be firm, O Uhud! For on you there are no more than a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs." Reference ►Sahih Bukhari Volume 5 Number 24. Hadith No.3 Hudhaifa reported that: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) stood before us one day and he did not leave anything unsaid (that he had to say) at that very spot which would happen (in the shape of turmoil) up to the Last Hour. Those who had to remember them preserved them in their minds and those who could not remember them forgot them. My friends knew them and there are certain things which slip out of my mind, but I recapitulate them when anyone makes a mention of them just as a person is lost from one's mind but is recalled to him on seeing his face. Reference ►Sahih Muslim The Book Pertaining to the Turmoil and Portents of the Last Hour (Kitab Al-Fitan wa Ashrat As-Sa`ah) Book 041, Number 6909 Anyone whosever rejects that Prophet (pbuh) has knowledge of the unseen, after having seen evidence from Quran and Hadith, than may Allah guide you. I haven't even provided references from renowned scholars yet and have already proved Prophet (pbuh) has knowledge of unseen, it doesn't take much intellect to realize that. |

Many groups of muslims claim that Beloved Prophet (pbuh) does not have knowledge of the unseen. There is no point of this as the ones who already think this is wrong are not going to accept it. Is can you contact me via email, see my blog at the bottom, the journey to reality and my email is listed under the post on urs sharif in the comments. I would like to ask you some questions about getting in touch with Shaikh Asrar Rashid of Birmingham. |

Salam 'Aeykum,
If that is the case then I also have knowledge of the unseen. You ask, how? I say: Because I've read some things that the Prophet (SAWS)said will happen in the future, thus I know some things from the unseen. In this sense, the Prophet (SAWS) does not know the unseen except what Allah has revealed to him, and Allah did not reveal everything to him otherwise he wouldn't have chosen those archers who stood on top of the mountain and later cost the Muslims the battle after they went down to the battlefield to collect the spoils. And more importantly, He (SAWS) would not have been ordered to say this: Say, [O Muhammad], "I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the provision] of Allah or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me." Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Then will you not give thought?" [6:50] Say, "I hold not for myself [the power of] benefit or harm, except what Allah has willed. And if I knew the unseen, I could have acquired much wealth, and no harm would have touched me. I am not except a warner and a bringer of good tidings to a people who believe." [7:188] |

Salam 'Aeykum, The Prophet salallahu alaihi wa salim had an extremely high knowledge of the unseen as given to him directly from Allah. It was not something that was independent of Allah. So while we have knowledge of the unseen in the sense you mentioned, it is not the same, as it came through the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa salim, while he was given it directly by Allah. See the hadith in Tirmidhi in this regard, in the book of tafsir. |

The Prophet (SAWS) said as narrated by ibn 'Umar (ra) in Musnad Ahmad volume 7 page 128: "The keys to the unseen are five, no one knows them except Allah, Indeed with God alone is the knowledge of the next day, Indeed with God alone is the knowledge of when the rain shall fall, Indeed with God alone is the knowledge of what is in the wombs, Indeed with God alone is the knowledge of the Hour of Judgment, No soul knows what it shall earn tomorrow and no soul knows when it shall die." And in Sahih Muslim #10 when Jibreel (as) asks the Prophet (SAWS) about the day of judgement, he (SAWS) replied: "The one being asked does not know more than the one asking the question." Then Jibreel (as) tells him: "I will tell you its (the day of judgement's) conditions..." And so on... |

Another example:
Narrated 'Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) We set out with Allahs Apostle on one of his journeys till we reached Al-Baida' or Dhatul-Jaish, a necklace of mine was broken (and lost). Allah's Apostle stayed there to search for it, and so did the people along with him. There was no water at that place, so the people went to Abu- Bakr As-Siddiq and said, "Don't you see what 'Aisha has done? She has made Allah's Apostle and the people stay where there is no water and they have no water with them." Abu Bakr came while Allah's Apostle was sleeping with his head on my thigh, He said, to me: "You have detained Allah's Apostle and the people where there is no water and they have no water with them. So he admonished me and said what Allah wished him to say and hit me on my flank with his hand. Nothing prevented me from moving (because of pain) but the position of Allah's Apostle on my thigh. Allah's Apostle got up when dawn broke and there was no water. So Allah revealed the Divine Verses of Tayammum. So they all performed Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said, "O the family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessing of yours." Then the camel on which I was riding was caused to move from its place and the necklace was found beneath it. source: Bukhari's Sahih #3672. |

![]() One of the main issues the ulama of Deoband have with the position of the Barelwis in this issue, is the blatant distorting of evidences to prove that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) had complete knowledge of the five things, including the hour. The truth is very easy to verify even for the laymen. Such positions give a clear indication as to which group of ulama have deviated from the truth. ![]() |

Mu‘adh ibn Jabal (Allah be well pleased with him) said:
One morning the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) was kept back from us, and he delayed the dawn prayer until we could almost see the sun, when he came out in a hurry and commenced the prayer. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) performed it quickly, and when he had closed with Salams, called out, “Stay as you are, in your rows.” He then turned to us and said, “I shall now tell you what kept me from you this morning. I rose last night, made ablution, prayed what had been destined for me to pray, but then became so drowsy in my prayer that lassitude overcame me. And lo, I was with my Lord, Blessed and Exalted, in a surpassingly beautiful form,[23] and He said, ‘O Muhammad,’ and I said, ‘Ever at Your service.’ He said, ‘What are the Supreme Assembly [of archangels] debating about?’ and I said, ‘I do not know.’ He asked this thrice. Then I saw Him place His hand between my shoulders until I felt the coolness of His fingertips between my breasts, and lo, everything was revealed to me, and I knew. He said, ‘O Muhammad, what are the Supreme Assembly debating about?’ I said, ‘About expiations.’ He said, ‘What are they?’ and I said, ‘The walking of one’s feet to good deeds, sitting in mosques after prayers, and making a thorough ablution when most unpleasant.’ He said, ‘And then?’ I said, ‘Feeding others, speaking affably, and praying the night when people sleep.’ He said, ‘Ask, saying: O Allah, I ask You that I may do good works, shun bad, and love the unfortunate; I ask that You may forgive me and show me mercy. And when You try a people, take my soul unafflicted. I ask Your love, the love of whoever loves You, and the love of works that bring one closer to Your love.’” The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said. “It was the truth. Study and learn it” (Tirmidhi (c00), 5.368–69: 3235) ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (Allah be well pleased with him) said, The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) stood before us and told us of [everything from] the very beginning of creation until the inhabitants of paradise have taken their places and the denizens of hell theirs—whoever memorized it memorized it; and whoever forgot it forgot it” (Bukhari (c00), 4.129: 3192). Reported by Hudhayfa: “The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) addressed us in a speech that omitted nothing until the Final Hour except that he mentioned it” (Bukhari (c00), 8.154: 6604) Abu Zayd ‘Amr ibn Akhtab: “He informed us of all that was and all that would be, the most knowledgeable of us being whoever remembered best” (Muslim (c00), 4.2217: 2892) Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri: “He stood up and spoke, leaving out nothing until the coming of the Final Hour save that he mentioned it” (Tirmidhi (c00), 4.483–84) |

Shaikh Ahmad Ridha Khan:
We do not hold that anyone can equal the knowledge of Allah Most High, or possess it independently, nor do we assert that Allah’s giving [of knowledge to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace)] is anything but a part.[26] But what a patent and tremendous difference between one part [the Prophet’s] and another [anyone else’s]: like the difference between the sky and the earth, or rather even greater and more immense (al-Dawla al-Makkiyya (c00), 291) |

No two muslims doubt that the knowledge of Rasulullah (SAW) was greater than any other creation.... But if everything is simply "everything" which doesn't leave anything then that's simply false, because it implies that his knowledge was unlimited, and not even Barelwis (atleast in their polemical works) do not believe in this. But if that "everything" is somehow restricted then that is established and this is what Deobandis and Salafis believe.
As for what are the exceptions with that "everything" and how that is restricted than that's a different issue. |

Salam 'Aeykum, If the prophet(pbuh) received knowledge from allah then, obviously there was a time when he didn't have knowledge so when people asked him he told them this. But I believe that the prophet had a vast amount of knowledge of the unseen, far beyond any one else, that it could be classed as "ilm al gayb". To a street beggar, penniless, thorn clothes, a millionaire seems very very very rich, out of his mind, so much so that he might but him in the same bracket as a billionaire. But there's a thousand degrees difference between the millionaire and the billionaire. Imagine if all the people are penniless beggars and the billionaire gave a normal everyday person a few million squids, making him rich beyond his dreams. Then Imagine this conversation: Beggar A might say this guy is very rich. Beggar B turns around and says no the only one who is truly rich is the billionaire and if money makes someone rich, then look i'm also rich...taking out a pound coin from his pocket..which the millionaire had donated to him earlier in the day. f that is the case then I also have knowledge of the unseen. We are the beggars, The prophet is the millionaire and God is the billionaire many times over. Substitute concept of money in the above for "ilm of the gayb" Subhanallah |
