Default Uglifying one’s voice?
I was talking it a sister about this and I’d really appreciate hearing your views. Do you think it’s virtuous for a sister who wears niqaab to disguise her voice by sticking something in her mouth or faking a lisp so men aren’t attracted to her? Barak Allah ta’aala

I want to do this-not that my voice is attractive because indeed it's very plain- but I don't have the guts yet.

Try making your voice harsh and to the point, that people will think 'what a rude person'.

The same way we'd usually talk to a telemarketer

Hehehe fantastic advice. Personally though, it's hard for me to take the 'smile' out of my voice even when I try to be rude as you say. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough. Barak Allah ta'aala

That sounds like taking it too far, considering the voice isn't even an awrah in all the schools of thought. Using your formal tone should generally be sufficient.

Did you know my sis muminah that Aisha RA would stick her finger in her mouth when she'd narrate ahaadith to the Sahaabah. That shows that she must've considered her voice awrah. Wallahu a'lam

Alhamdulillah, great to hear people trying their best to implement the laws of hijaab and purdah in their lives.

May Allah ta'aala keep us steadfast, ameen.

I understand my sis and rudeness really gets on my nerves but here I feel the means justifies the ends. I think we should gauge our rudeness on the ghair mahram’ss friendliness towards us. If he’s smiling, leaning towards us etc. then turn up the rudeness. If not and we see he’s mildly annoyed by us then that’s what were aiming for. Wallahu a’lam

Choosing to stick something in our mouths (like a plastic bottlecap), I think eliminates the need to be rude. Try it and you’ll see what I mean; it instantly changes the voice so you sound nothing like yourself.

I think I’ll test it out this week and see how it goes…! Barak Allah ta’aala my sis

I've never tried a bottle cap...interesting. Usually, I just try making my voice sound deeper I think that works fine.

Sisters... please, walking around with a bottlecap in your mouth is dangerous. Just don't talk if you are concerned.

Your're right my sister but perhaps putting a harmless object in our mouths would be even better. Wallahu a'lam Barak Allah ta'aala

Actually, HighHopes is considering doing this so that she can talk more.

If one feels the bottle cap constitutes a safety hazard for them then let them just pretend to have one in their mouth or chew on a massive piece of bubblegum instead. Barak Allah ta'aala.

A monotonous voice, which displays lack of emotion works for me.
Even when talking on the phone covering the mouth with a cloth makes one sound a little muffled, hence 'true' voice is masked.

I’d imagine my sis muslimah that maintaining such a monotonous tone would be very difficult in a public discussion you’re passionate about. With something in our mouths however, our voices would sound ugly no matter what. Wallahu a’lam Barak Allah ta’aala.

The more I think about it, the more I feel it’s an excellent idea - even if it makes us sound mentally slow or mute - because it’s the substance of what we say that counts not how it sounds. Nor should we feel this will undermine our ability to communicate well with others because, ultimately, the effectiveness of communication lies in Allah’s SWT ‘Hands’ alone; He SWT decides how people interpret our words and body language whether it be in a good or bad way. As long as we’re sincere in doing this, Allah SWT will most definitely take care of everything else.

Please pray that HighHopes puts her words into practice. Barak Allah ta’aala Please pray it right now my dear SFers. Thank you very much.

..........Or just talk to the point and not beautify your voice and make it all barbie doll type........instead of putting anything in your mouth.

Can't stop every single man from the fitnah can they?
