Default What's the cure for this disease?
Love of the Dunya; a disease much more severe and deadly than any physical ailment we might fact in our life.

The Prophet of Allah [peace and blessings be upon him] said:

“The People will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their food.” Someone asked, “Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?” He replied, “No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be froth and scum like that carried down by a torrent (of water), and Allah will take the fear of you from the breasts (hearts) of your enemy and cast al-wahn into your hearts.” Someone asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is al-wahn?” He replied, “Love of the world and dislike of death.” [An authentic hadith recorded by Abu Dawud and Ahmad]

The question, what is the cure?

1. Sincerity
2. Learning the true worth of this World from the Qur'an and Sunnah
3. Al-Zuhd in all it's forms. a) leaving the haram (b) leaving what keeps busy from the remembrance of Allah and (c) leaving which you fear its effects in the Hereafter [called al-wara' in Arabic which is the highest form of zuhd]
4. Always giving preference to investing in our Hereafter rather than our Dunya.
5. Dua to Allah

I hope someone with more knowledge can add to this or provide a better answer.

Ponder over the temporal nature of life in this world and the temporal nature of this world itself.
If you know Urdu then listen to this.

I do not know Urdu, only Arabic. However, I heard many lectures on this subject since this hurdle is the major roadblock preventing the Ummah from reaching it's full potential and regain the pride it once had.

Umar (RA) used to say:
نحن قوم أعزنا الله بالإسلام، ومهما ابتغينا العزة بغيره أذلنا الله
We are a nation that Allah has made praiseworthy via Islam, and if we were to seek this pride in anything other [ie. wealth, political power, education, etc.] than Islam that Allah would belittle us.

If you look at the Ummah now, it has never seen such competition and love for the Dunya as it has now and as a result we are out our weakest state then we have ever been despite our large numbers.

Some of the Salaf [it is wrongly attributed as Hadith of Prophet peace and blessings be upon him] used to say: The love of this World is the root of every sin.

Do you want me to search for its English translation? It is a cleansing poem.

And there are many people who have overcome this hubb-ud-dunya. I envy them.
