Default Practical Question re Sealskinz Socks
salaam,

Having read several fatwas on masah being permissible on these socks, I was wondering if anyone actually wears them throughout the day and is this practical?

I went to look/possibly buy a pair and they seem very very thick! And as far as I'm aware they're actually designed for mountain climbing.

They're very expensive but if they're ok to wear all day (i.e. feet not getting very hot/sweaty) then I'd be willing to invest in them.

So to those who wear them - some feedback would be appreciated!

Assalamu alaikum brother,

Before I got my SealSkinz socks I used to wear my khuffs (plus cotton socks underneath) for the whole day almost every day. Now I do the same with the SealSkinz.

The SealSkinz socks are not thick at all. In fact they are very comfortable and stick tightly to your skin. It is possible to wear them the whole day. They have good fitting.

However, the SealSkinz socks get really smelly and stinky even if you wash them. Unless you wash them every day or every two days they will smell really bad once you take them off. That is why I reverted back to the leather socks. They never smell or stink.

There are pros and cons for both.

Can you wear leather socks with dress shoes? I find that my legs don't fit with leather socks.

I bought my dress shoes so that it would specifically fit while I was wearing my leather socks. So I don't experience much problems. But the feeling of the SealSkinz socks are exceptional.

If you wear another socks under the sealskinz socks then it doesn't smell. Try it!

Assalamu alaikum,
i bought the cheapest one (which is still like $25 US plus shipping. But I think its the standard one. I threw the package away. But its not the chillblocker - that's more expensive. It's teh standard normal one.

But if yuo are in u.k. don't order from here because shipping from u.s. might be expensive. try the u.k. ebay site. maybe brothers from u.k. can point out.

However, the SealSkinz socks get really smelly and stinky even if you wash them. Unless you wash them every day or every two days they will smell really bad once you take them off. most people don't wear any type of socks for more than a day anyway
but yea, feet definitely sweat more in these socks
you need to buy quite a few pairs if you want to wear them daily
then make sure when you buy new shoes you wear those socks to the shoe shop cuz they are relatively thick
also i've found that they don't tend to last more than six months or so which is probably reasonable.....

To me it doesn't feel uncomfortably hot.

Make sure your shoes don't smell otherwise you will think that your socks smell. I usually need to wash my socks every 3-4 weeks.

Also, make sure that your socks don't get wet in the Wudu area because they really start to stink quickly if you wear damp sealsinkz socks in your shoes.

Just make sure that the socks don't get wet on the outside and make sure you wear socks under the seals skinz socks so they don't get wet on the inside.

Please share your results because my feet might be very dry so the advice of wearing socks under sealskinz might not be applicable to everyone.

I have wore them in some of the hotest parts of the world (Malaysia/Thailand/Sri-Lanka) while travelling.

I have wore them and jogged (for testing). They are breathable to although you sweat more but the material wicks the moisture off.

I wear them at work during Winter (in UK) because Salahs are close together.

They are much more comfortable then Leather socks and you can hike, run, jog, workout (if need to) UNLIKE leather socks.

The other thing you will notice is because they are breathable you won't get dry feet and chapped skin and ugly heels etc. ...so if you are into taking care of your feet get them!

Why do you need to wear them all day? You only need to wear them where you know you will need to do Masah of the feet as Wudhu will be hard to do. All the brothers who use them use them as needed and they are great.

For example a Hanafi Brother wears normal socks all day and when he needs to go to the Toilet (at work) he changes to these, then does his Wudhu with Masah and prays and because his next Salah will at home he switches to his normal socks again. When he needs to lead Jummuah he switches to Leather socks as there are Brothers who don't agree with Sealskinz Masah (Malikees etc.) so he looks after his Musalees and respects their Fiqh.

They are SUPERB!

I wasn't talking about masah wet. Where I do wudu the area around me is really wet or too much water from wudu drips on to the socks which doesn't dry before I put on my shoes so it starts to stink after a while. This happens only in mosques not at work place since work place bathrooms are dry and you don't have to sit to do wudu which wets my socks.

Assalamu `alaikum,

I appologize for refreshing this thread, but can anyone recommend some good leather socks in UK or US (links please). Insha Allah, I'm ordering some Sealskinz socks, and I thought of adding good leather socks to the order, while I'm at it.

Thanks in advance, and may Allah reward you!
