First: Sincerity and loyalty.
The Salaf said, “A little loyalty after death is better than much in life”. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did a favour to an old lady when she came to him, so the companions asked him why. He said, “She used to come to us at the time of Khadija, and my loyalty to Khadija is it to keep on doing good to her friends which is the continuing from faith”. Second: Thinking highly of one’s brothers. Thinking highly of one’s brothers is the right of brotherhood. Allah says, يا أيها الذين آمنوا اجتنبوا كثيرا من الظنّ إنّ بعد الظنّ إثم “O, you who believe, avoid much suspicion, indeed some suspicions are sins”. One of the virtues of Imam Al Shafi is that one of his students, Ibn Suliman, said, “I came to Al Shafi while he was sick. So I said to him, ‘May Allah increase your weakness’. He said, ‘If he increases my weakness, then he will kill me’. I said, ‘I swear to Allah, that I meant good’. He said, ‘I know that even if you insulted me, you only meant good’”. Third: Humility. One of the obligations towards brothers is that you become humble and do not think badly of them, and if you see them being better than you, then you are actually better than them. Abo Muhawiyah Al Aswad said, “All my brothers are better than me”. They asked, “How?” He said, “All of them think that I’m doing a favour upon them, and whoever sees me doing a favour to him, then he’s better than me”. Abdullah Al Saleh www.Abdullahalsaleh.com |
