WOW Murv, you certainly are an inspiration! You should be soooo pleased with yourself. And your wife must be delighted too! I'm certainly sitting here grinning like a fool for ya.

Muscle is 7 times denser than fat. Betcha you're converting a lot of muscle with all the working out you're doing. How kewl is that? 8) The measuring tape must be telling a whole different story than your scales. thumb

GREAT JOB!

Woo hoo!!! I love this post

I remember running 2 miles for the first time - my boss announced it to everyone! People were like "I don't drive that far!" This was somethng that I never did in my life.

But enough about me Congratulations on doing something that only a small percentage of people can do. Well, I'm sure a high % have the ability, but not the dedication. Now, you can sign up for a 5k and you'll really be hooked.

Now ... I noticed that you are suspiciously missing from our challenges ?? I checked. I thought that maybe I just missed you. So start logging those miles, buster

That's so great! I've always had a love/HATE relationship with running. But I do find myself looking forward to the day when I can run again without worry of feeling crippled the next morning.

YOU HAVE MADE SUCH GREAT PROGRESS. Ignore the scale.

My motto (before Atkins) was "Walking is what you do when your car breaks down, and running is what you do when a grizzly bear is chasing you!"

Well, I've gotten a little better! I am walking a couple of miles a day now (not a lot compared to some of you but it's a start) plus I am using my stationary bike for 20-30 minutes per day. I got this bike because my boyfriend told me how much I would get to enjoy using it (it's been six weeks and I"m still waiting for that to happen!) I don't hate it, but right now, I'm still just doing it because I know I need to do it--hopefully the "enjoyment" will come later!

So, I admire you Murv--you've gotten to that "enjoyment" phase that I am still hoping for! Good for you, and keep up the good work!

Fabulous, Murv! So great! thumb

You've given me inspiration next time I get on the treadmill, which I do 4-5 times a week but I usually walk at a fast clip. I've always felt uncomfortable running, even though during that "one good year" I had back in 1992 I ran daily for 3-4 miles. I loved it then. Maybe it will come back around... funny how it sneaks up on you, no?

Very happy for you.

P.S. And I too love a man in uniform.

Default Progress, gotta tell.. very long, refill your water..
Most of you know my weight loss progress and my committment to the WOE.

However, I have not participated much in the discussion of excercise. Before Atkins, I rarely excercised outside of necessity or entertainment. For example, I love participating in any type of game or sport and will join in when there's an opportunity. But I rarely would visit a gym and excercise for the sake of exercise.

That changed when I started Atkins this past March and I started taking advantage of my company's fitness center (nicer than most health clubs I've seen on occaision). I have been regularly working out, alternating weight training and cardio. I have come to enjoy this odd contraption called a treadmill.

Previously, I would laugh at the poor souls that tortured themselves running/walking and getting nowhere. "Just go outside," I thought to myself.

Well, I began using this treadmill and walking and walking and walking. I could not bring myself to run. I hate running. I hated running in gym class back in my high school days. I hate running, period. Running in a football game? That's different, there was a purpose. Kill the opponent. Running after the ice cream man as he passes your house? Again, purpose.

Back to the treadmill (whew, the ice cream man! How do I love a man in uniform....ahem..sorry), I have progressed and walked through all the computerized levels one can on these treadmills, so I bumped it up to the next level which at some point, shhhh!...(whispers) involved running.

Wow, I handled it. "Next level please", more and more running.

Now I'm a running fool. Its actually fun! I'm even considering a mini-marathon or such, some day! Forest Gump be damned, I like to run! Did you hear me? I Like To Run!

Yesterday, I weighed in and reported on my progress thread that it was my first Zero loss. I didn't report this, but I was devastated. I was depressed all day yesterday and this morning. Why did this happen? I did not cheat, Continued my workouts. Everything is going great. "Why?" Sure, I know and read that this happens to others sometimes. It just happens. But it never happened to Murv 'til now. And I couldn't handle it.

But, I just realized something as I stepped off that sleek, black monster treadmill. Yeah, no loss this week. But I just ran 2 miles. Look, It says it right there in all its digital glory! Again, this is profound. Say it along with me. "I just ran 2 miles!" Nonstop. How cool is that? How healthy is that? Go ahead, give me another zero loss this week! I don't care! I'm not gonna cheat! I'm healthier! I'm slimmer! I'll lose the next week. Or the next. In fact, I just ran 2 miles! I never ran that far for the ice cream man! (well, he stops just 1 block away).

Bottom line, and its been said here before. I've read it. I just didn't take it to heart. Don't live and die by the scale. There are other measurements of progress to consider. Mine you ask? Well this week, it measured 2 miles.

Nice to meet you and Well done Murv!

I fully know and appreciate your achievement.. it ain't easy but each time you run it generally (odd bad run but don't count those) gets easier, and further..

I completed the couch to 5k plan a while back, and whilst my running has given way to family / fostering life at the moment. I am still keeping up my exercise via aerobics and boy I'm better at that than I was 6 mths ago when I first started on atkins!
