So I am going back to the gym today after letting my aching muscles (which still ache) rest. Its just after 8 am and I have so much to do (leaving for cruise tomorrow) So I will get some food in my body soon here (with carbs) and get to the gym ATLEAST an hour after I eat. I will also skip my coffee

So I went to the gym today feeling fantastic!
I did my 30 minutes of cardio but worked at it extra hard today. I then did my circuit training and by the first round I was feeling a little queezy. (I do 2 rounds on the circuit) By the second round I had to stand still a bit bc I felt I might pass out or throw up if I moved. It has been 45 minutes since and though I feel better than I did, I still feel miserable. Is this because I pushed myself too hard or because I had a stomach full of water, food and coffee? At 8:30 I had two 8 oz glasses of water with breakfast of 1 egg and 1 sausage link and vitamins. sipped my large cup of coffee between 9-10am and got to the gym at 10:30. At the gym I managed down another three 8oz of water. Was this my problem? I just want to puke stick my finger down my throat to feel better. But I have never done that in my life and don't want to start now.(dont worry, i wont do it) I have alot to do today (getting ready for vacation) and can not afford to feel miserable. THanks n advance, Tonya |

susanna, your so sweet for asking. But I should be asking you the same
things are good. my workout yesterday went well although I was rushed because I have a booth at a festival saturday and I have alot to get done in preperation. So i only did 10 minutes of cardio (eliptacle) to get my heart pumpin then I did my circuit training. I upped all of my weights 5 pounds and managed. Boy was I beat though. After eating more, I still had only 1 cup of coffee and I did take my vitamins, but I felt fine after my workout. So there it be....I needed to eat more. Today I am going to slip some strawberries as well as 1 egg and 1 sausage in my belly as brian suggested and see if that makes me feel even better. get some good carb action going. thanks again for everyones ongoing support. J, maybe your right about the food. Although I usually eat the same amount, I dont usually work out that hard and I usually wait an hour before working out, not a half hour.
As far as the water goes Qvaria, I always have my 2 glasses b4 working out and 3 at the gym, so i dont think its that. Maybe its just that I didnt give my body enough time for the water to settle before a strenuous work out. Ugh! I dont know. Hubby thinks its because of the coffe rushing through my body and speeding my heart up then the workout speeding it up more. All I know is that I dont want to feel that way again. I am feeling better now though, thanks for your concern. Tonya |

Lunacat,
I think its definately to do with pushing yourself too hard. I hope youre checking your heart beat rate while doing the exercise? If u exceed your heart beat rate and the heart is pumping at speeds it does not know till now, u will definately have symptoms of nausea and blackout etc. I used to be in an aerobics class once and everytime i let my heart beat rate exceed and never rested i got the very same symptoms. They can be dangerous. Have u got an instructor there who cld breif you abt the heart beat rate to exercise in? One method is that when ure full force and tired, stop, put your fingertips at the base of your neck (where u can feel your heart beat ), look at your watch and count one minute. Meanwhile count the times ur heart beats in that time. You will know what the rate is and then can compare it with an accepted rate. Good luck! |

I had a similar experience a while back. I believe that if you don't have enough carbs in your system and push yourself cardiovascularly, that you can run out of gas and make yourself feel sick. I increased carbs a little, esp. before exercise, and have not had a recurrence. I'd recommend taking a couple days off and then resuming at a slightly slower pace and gradually increase intensity again.

I don't think you ate enough. HOw many calories did you burn based on how many you ate and then think about how many calories it takes to breathe. And my vitamins have been making me sick lately, so I quit the Accel and the oils. Just taking a vitamin, a potassium, and a magnesium. But I don't take them any where near the time I workout. Just my thoughts.

sorry i havent replied here in a while.
shai, I think u were right about my heart rate. the machine said it should be 150 and I was taking it up to 160 thinking that I would lose faster if I worked harder. I will stay at my 150 now. Jon and susanna I think you are also correct in that I wasnt eating enough. I thought it was better than nthing being as Body for Life tells you not to eat before a workout and your results are 300%. I am now eating 2 eggs and 2 sausage links plus 2-4 glasses of water before the gym. For vitamins I take one a day carbwise, omega-3 and a calcium supliment.I wait atleast an hour after eating before my workout. after the cruise I am having a hard time getting 30 minutes of cardio. I think its from the altitude though. Friday I managed 26 minutes but I could go no longer. I almost feel asthmatic. Usually I get in 30 and then do my circuit training. I will get back to where I was. I also think maybe I am losing my motivation due to my workout partner having surgery. she should be back in about 3 weeks hopefully. But I need that extra umph sometime. I will get back into the swing of things. Thanks so much for all of your support. Tonya |

I haven't read all the replies,, but I did read a few..
I workout at various times during the day.. but the same rule always applies to me.. I can not eat anything for atleast two hours, prior to a workout, or I will be upchucking within the first 30 minutes.. So, I wait until after my workout and then have some kind of protein.. I don't think this applies to everybody, because I know people at the gym that will sit and drink carb filled smoothies the entire time they are working out.. and others that can run just after dinner.. Not me though.. I have to wait until after the workout to eat.. otherwise, I'm sick. |
