I am glad to here that as I really like the eliptical trainers much more than the treadmill. I go with a friend who likes the treadmill.

Chrissie, to answer your question, if you want to tone it, all of these things will work. You could also get a ball from a bin at wal-mart, a small one, larger than a tennis ball , about the size of a big grapefruit.

You want to lay on the floor on your back, bring your knees up. Place the ball between your knees and squeeze the ball. You can add sit ups to this as well, just remember to squeeze the ball with your knees. Works the inner thigh.

I second the Pilates. Very little effort but I'm more flexible and thinner at the same weight.

when i have to work out at home I do a squat with a 5 pound weight in my hands and raise my hands above my haid as I come up and lower my arms as I come down bending at the knee.

for my calves I go to my stairs, let my heels hang off the step and press up on my tiptoes, up and down, up and down.

for my hamstrings I use my balance ball.

lay on your back, heels on the balance ball, (no calves touching the ball)arms out at your sides (helping balance)pick your hiney up off the ground as high as you can and hold for 30 seconds. If this hurts your lower back, simply lower your hiney.

Also works on your lower stummy.

I am not a professional trainer, so I do not know what the best leg workout is for you. I am sure others will have something els for u as well.

Good luck,

Tonya

if you go to a gym...
EFX (elliptical trainers) are a great way to go. Cardio is the key to any weight loss, but the resistance levels on EFX can also target specific lower body muscle groups to help you firm up the lower body from the glutes to the calves. I love EFX bc it kills 2 birds with one stone!

Remember that fat belongs to the entire body. Lower body workouts will not spot reduce fat in your legs. Fat is added and reduced in a genetically predetermined order that is different for each person. Eventually you will lose fat in the areas you are trying to target if you condinue to lose weight - regardless of how (diet or exercise or both).

If your goal is to increase muscular conditioning in your legs, then lower body workouts are the way to go!
