PH,

I think you'll be fine adding more days, especially since you're in the run/walk sections. Once you're doing all running (high-impact), you just want to make sure that you don't increase your weekly mileage by too much at one time.

Cardio, itself, can be done every day. It's the impact part that you want to increase gradually with.

Congrats!

It's ok if the first week was tough. The first week of my SIL's program at the Y was a 20 minute walk the first week, so you're still ahead of the game. It's fine to repeat weeks if you need to, also.

And, not to send you to another forum, but that site has a great support thread under the "Newbies" section. It's nothing but people currently on the program talking about their experiences.

Ok.. niece has definately dropped out of running now. Well will run along on my own (makes planning them easier anyhow as only my household to fit in with).

Did aerobics today, good fast workout  .

Running again tomorrow, week 4 day 3 here I come. If I'm ok with that I'll step up on Friday or Saturday.

Wooohooo I did better!
Tonight was wk 1 day 2 of couch to 5k, and I can't belive my progress.. not earth shattering but I'm sooo happy!

I managed two sets of the 60sec run and 90 sec walk (1 set up on monday) then continued at 30sec run, 15 sec walk, 15 sec run, 90 sec walk

That was a full 15 sec more each set than monday.

I can't belive it, when I went out i was shattered from a busy day and legs still aching from monday!

Just shows!! Can't wait for next session.
Am gonna repeat wk 1, my niece can't make next session so will do it alone.

I did an amended run today to see how much I could do without pushing too hard.
1 set of 90 sec jog, 90 sec walk, then 2 min jog, 90 sec walk, 3 min jog, 2 min walk, 2 min jog, 90 sec walk, 3min 22 sec jog (back to main road) then cool down walk.

Can't believe I ran over 3 mins... and I could only do 30 secs 2 weeks ago!!

Can't wait for my next run.. but have aerobics tomorrow so will wait till wednesday.

Niece has 'dropped out' i think she didn't turn up today and thats 3 runs she's missed now. Not returned my call from friday either.. oh well. Looks like i'll be a lone runner in my 5k run in July!

Purple Hugs -- you have been fantastic since you decided to do this exercise routine. Good for you! How wonderful. 8)

Patty - you are the best coach I have ever worked with (ok, I haven't worked with many coaches, but you are the best and you are the type I would WANT to follow *my own personal Bill Belicheck*)

Didnt' do an extra run this week in the end, as yesterday was shattered. Only did 15 mins tae bo indoors (was freezing out)>

However...

Today I completed Wk 1.. and then some!
I did a full set of the Wk2 routine, as wanted to make sure I could do it.. and added a 2 min run on the end.

Am working toward the following week each time I run, so it is a gradual increase. i.e. wk 3 has a 3 min run in it.. so if I build the 2 mins into 3 mins over the next week won't be as hard in Wk 3.. 8)

Thats my theory anyhow.

Feeling great and really really pleased with my progress! Even ran for a bus the other day..

my niece didn't make this run again and am beginning to doubt she'll stick to it. But she's had a rough week this week so fingers crossed she gets back into it next week. I think I'll count myself doing this on my own with her tagging along occasionally.

I enjoyed testing myself today but not going over the top.

Started it today!! woohoo.. couldn't keep to the schedule for the first week, but did 30 sec run, 30 sec power walk.

Am pleased and legs suitably 'aching' but not sore.
My niece is doing it with me, and we're back out on Wednesday.

Well getting on great, finished Wk 5, and did the 20 min run today with a slightly faster pace, and slightly higher mileage of 1.728 including warm up/down.

so... all in all really pleased! It was a lovely run today, lovely weather (ran in short sleeved top) and felt great! Sun shining smell of blossom in the air.

Default Start To Run Challenge
I'm challenging myself (although anyones welcome to join in) to start to run.

I haven't since leaving the TA/Vol army and that was always forced.

I don't see myself as ever being a long distance runner as always get a burning chest after a couple of miles even at my fittest.

Now.. I'm starting from walking up. My walking has become better recently, and i'm happy walking 4-5miles easily.

So.. this week, is looking for tips/routines and then hitting the tarmac / pavement.

Anyone got any tips? ? Remember... big girl.. not run for over 9 years!

Thanks

Wow! Wonderful!

Don't worry about pace. You burn the same number of calories per mile whether you run it fast or slow

I ran... 2.5 miles without stopping yesterday! wooohooo! It took me 36mins so quite slow but for a first not bad (I am pleased).

Felt great, really wanted to head for mileage now so I can get a feel for how long it will take/improvment made.

Was planning on doing 3rd session today, but I feel really poorly. Flu or something don't know, really lacking energy and DH is the same. Will have to hope I feel better tomorrow, need to run and also have friends for dinner tomorrow (atkins friendly of course).
