Thanks Patty.. I will be trying to aim to run the lot, the website for the run organisers (they have them throughout the UK) state it's walkable though. It's a lovely park and quite (ish) flat so not too many hills to worry about.. I have plenty where I live though so can get a bit of hill training in (in due course..).

Do you think it would be ok to run in my rest days.. I have a Friday and Sunday as a 'Spare' rest day, and would love to do a bit of extra running.. what do you think?

Purple, I am a big girl as well but I did enjoy the Couch to 5k program when I was on it faithfuly. It was easy and I found my endurance building.

I lost the link but I am sure others have it. It also has its own post somewhere if you search for it.

And the couch to 5k sounds cool i'll have a search..

It's gonna be weird hitting the streets.. can u jog on the spot at home to help build up stamina?

The 5k run is a great goal! They're usually very walker friendly, too, but I'm sure you'll run the whole way http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif Summer heat can be tough, tho.

It's nice to run with someone once in a while, but I prefer the solitude. I can run at my own pace and not compete with anyone.

x2 90 sec, x2 2 mins x1 3 mins running and 90 sec walks in between.

Thanks, I'm not beating myself up about not making the times, I'm a little sore today but the main thing was to do some running and not be overly sore / injured and be able to do wednesdays! :wink:

I started running using the couch to 5k. I never ran in my life until less than 2 years ago. Not even once around that track ! (.25 mile)

My sister did the program about a year ago. There's a lot of great information on that site, too. Keep us posted !

Only thing that worries me slightly is whenever I have run or used a proper bike.. I've ended up with a burning chest even whne i was fitter and nearly 35lbs lighter!

I want to start off small to test if it comes back again, and to build up my running from scratch. If it does return i'll have to check it out with a dr I think in case it's a form of asthma or someting.

I figure even if I can only run a mile without my chest hurting its a good thing. And hopefully i'll make more.

Am going for a 4.5 mile walk today and some gardening at the end of it, so won't start today but will do soon.

sadly as niece has dropped out, she's choosing to 'walk' the course. and not sure she'll even enter as she's now saying she'll do it herself.

I am planning on doing this alone, but I don't mind. It's lovely to de-stress, and if I make a friend to run with in the future great, if not.. I can do it on my own! I don't even get shy when I run past people now. I don't care what they think :wink: .

Patty, do you think it's wise to do week 6 day 1 and 2 as 20 min runs instead of breaking it up? as off next week I'll be doing 25 mins straight and no more walks allowed.

I feel able to do it, but dont' know if I should. My legs are fine etc, but my mileage is lower than it should be.

It's great to have a group for your first race. I was lucky to go with my SIL (her second race), who pretty much told me where to go and such. I'm pretty much a misfit normally! Now, I don't mind going by myself.

Did Week 2 day 3 today.. BUT did it a bit different. I've been testing my ability (not to the extreme though)
and did the sets for Week 4! and a little extra.. ran
3mins - 90 sec walk
5mins - 2.5 min walk
3 min - 90 sec walk
6.5 (yes...) run!!!

Am soo pleased as my breathing was fine! Didn't push too hard, just jogged.

So now I don't know whether to do week 4 next week, or week 3?

When I get a car later in the year I've found a running group I could join and want to train in the park where my first 5k is to get used to it. So till then I'll work on making sure I can run with the group and not be an http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...on_redface.gif runner!

Ur right about pace, she was quicker than me (but burnt out quicker as didn't like running slow) and it was a bit dis-heartening to be plodding along while she was waiting for me! :P

Hope ur legs getting better Patty..

Well, I managed the full 60 sec jog (slow) and 90 sec walk last night for the 20 min (including warm up).

My niece is gagging at the bit.. as they say, so have printed the course and she'll have to start running her own course I think (rather than wait for me). We can still go running together, and support one another, but she's fitter then me, and even asked how far a marathon is.. balked at the answer, but asked! So I guess she's keen to test her limits more than Wk 1 ! hehe

Am really enjoying the challenge, and the small steps of progress. First goal is still to be able to run a mile straight. or just run for the bus would be good!! :P

Well.. niece can't run tonight so did my run early.. on my own for the first time (was v.nervous) and in daylight for the first time!!

Did full lots of 60 sec jog and 90 sec walk and also added one set of 90 sec run in, as want to get ready for next week..

Felt great and got rid of my nerves quickly.

We have both agreed to go for a 5k charity run (cancer research) in July so am aiming to be able to do that by then... however, if i can't run the lot I'll happily walk & run the course.

Niece has agreed to stick to the plan of C25k as she was surprised at wk 3 and 4's upstep.

I think you'll be fine. I don't know why they go back to intervals for 2 more days. If you're comfortable with the 20 minutes, then I'm sure you'll be fine. You've been doing other aerobics all along anyway.

Hugs, I'm so proud of you http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-005.gif You wouldn't believe how many people don't get this far! A few weeks ago you were proud of 90 seconds, and now you don't want less than 20 minutes. Isn't it great?!

As for the traffic deal - I think that once you get to the longer runs, it's just hard to find a good route. Sometimes, part of it has to be on a busier road. Personally, I try to keep to the quiet roads, but sometimes those roads get busier, too.

it's funny cos when I started, my goal was to run 1 mile. It was my niece that wanted to do the 5k run, and I agreed to walk it partly if I had to. That got me thinking I need to TRY to run it, and here I am, just enlisted for it, all paid up and have already beat my 1 mile target.

I'm glad u think it's ok to do the 20, it's much easier than stopping and starting all the time I think. And from next week it's solid all the way anyhow.

I bought my very first pair of running shoes today and it felt great. There is no where round me to be assessed, so I've gone for what feels comfy and will keep my fingers crossed. Also bought some running tights (3/4 length as getting warmer), thought i'd look like a beached whale given that I'm still a UK 16-18 but they aren't at all bad. Don't think I'll be arrested for going out in public in them! http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I guess your right about the traffic, I plan my 'long runs' to go down to town and run in a nice park down there. Just now it's too far, but eventually :wink: . DH has even agreed to get the bus with DD and meet me down there as it's a lovely place for picnic, and has paddling pool/play park that DD enjoys in the summertime. I can't wait! It's also where the 5k is being held in July so will be good to run the paths in the park to get used to them.
