Thanks for the info, Patty. I think I'll lay off the heavy endurance excercising for another week or two until my body figures this thing out. I'll definitely add my miles to the Atlantic Ocean Challenge once I get going again. That sounds like fun.
Hey, this might be a good excuse to finally go to the gym. Really need to add some resistance training anyway. |

Scott, I went back thru my log. I ran 3x in week2, but not at all in week 3. That was when the fatigue really overcame me, and I had trouble getting out of bed. Everyone is different, but if this happens to you, don't get discouraged. Weeks 4&5 were still "light" for me, but by week 6, things really evened out. I'm sure my carbs were a little higher by then, too.
I'm not sure how much was affected by carbs or just by my body adjusting. |

Stick to it. The first week or so your body will simply give out on you due to the new adjustment it is undergoing. 10 Days from now you should be back in business, just push through and tough it out; you will be amazed at what you can accomplish on this diet with good a cardio regimen in the mix!!!

I went running yesterday (10th day of Induction) but this time I did it at the gym. I think my main problem last week was dehydration. When I'm running outside, I'm not drinking water and start feeling bad after a mile or two. At the gym, I was able to keep drinking water while running and that may have helped a lot.
Anyway, I made 3 miles for the first time since starting Atkins so I'm happy about that. |

Scott, I'm about your level at running, and also started a couple years ago. I had a tough time for about 5 weeks. There's been a few threads on this subject. Here's a good one with a few opinions.
You do need to stick it out. Your endurance will come back when you start adding more carbs. Also, check out the Atlantic Ocean Challenge where we log our cumulative miles. |

I took up running almost 2 years ago. I'm not a marathoner by any means but I can do 3 miles comfortably and 5 miles on a good day.
I had started Atkins last week and have been pleased with the results but I can't seem to run at all anymore. After 1 to 1.5 miles, I get extremely tired and my chest, shoulders, and stomach all start to ache. I haven't had these types of aches before while running. The last time I tried running, I almost threw up (probably would have if I had anything on my stomach). I'm actually dreading trying to run again. So is this typical in the Induction Phase? If I stay between 20g and 30g of carbs after Induction, will I get back my endurance energy? If so, how long until I'm back to 100%? Or do I just have to eat more carbs to get it back? I don't mind cutting back on running for a week or two but it's become an important part of my excercise routine and I don't want to give it up. Any advice? |
