I could not run here on the ice and the snow, no way. It's indoor workouts all the way. Either at home or at the gym.

I love my treadmill in winter and its really all i can do with 3 little ones here running all about.
Another reason why I run at 5AM! Everyone is still sleeping, and hubby is always home at that time. He doesn't complain about watching them at that hour either http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

I just checked the temp, and it's 2 degrees out there! I think the dreadmill is calling me http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...on_redface.gif

I'm a total wimp in the cold and hate the dark. I'm amazed how I manage to run on some of these days. I'll run in rain and snow. I've found myself enjoying days that I never dreamed I'd be outside in. My tips:

I prefer running over walking, as I don't get as "heated" up while walking, so I'm always cold. With running, I warm up.

I run first thing in the morning, before I realize how cold it is. At the end of the day, when I'm leaving work cold and tired, I can't imagine spending any time outdoors - I just want to get in my warm car. I also find that the weather is usually calmer in the morning.

Dressing correctly is important. Wear clothes that wick moisture (Dri-Fit, CoolMax, etc). This works for both cool and warm weather. Once you sweat, the wet clothes could really make you sick. I wear a light inner layer that's tighter fitting, with a warmer outter layer (fleece top). The sweat wicks to the outter layer, keeping you warm and dry. My hat, gloves and socks are also Cool-max. I also wear a reflective vest.

I check the temp before I leave the house. When it's under 35, I wear a 2nd layer of pants. Under 20, I wear a 3rd layer jacket. I find that the worst days are not the coldest, they are the days where the windchill is way below the actual temp. I prefer running in 10 degrees over a 30 degree day with a 20 windchill.

I keep a log of all my runs/walks. I log mileage, temps, pace, shoes, and some personal notes. This keeps me motivated.

Ice is the main obstacle that will keep me inside, as it's just dangerous. I really dread the treadmill, but it's there if I need it.

Winter Workouts

Gee for me it's the opposite, I hate working out in the hot weather. Sari and other aussies will know what I'm talking about! *turns up her fan*. I love working out on the colder weather 'cause then you get heated up. Anyway, I know that didn't really help, but just had to comment

I am with kimbo on this one! I prefer cooler weather when it comes to exercise... mind you... I may change my tune if I was living where it snowed lol http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...icon_smile.gif

In winter where I live.. and even at times where Kimbo lives.. you can still get away with shorts and a T-shirt lol http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...icon_smile.gif

65 degrees fahrenheight is quite cold! Where I live we are lucky to get that of a night time in winter let alone the day! lol http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...icon_smile.gif

The only sport I like this time of year is swimming...
