Hi all!! I'm a newby to Adkins, but not to the low-carb concept. I'm still in induction, but have been doing 30-60 minutes of elliptical a day, seven days a week. I plan to add two days of yoga, beginning next week. Any recommendations as to how many days of weight training-----two or three is sufficient?? Also, I've been hearing a lot about "turbo charging" Adkins by staying in the induction phase for an extended period. Any input is greatly appreciated, and good luck to all!!!! :P

Right now, I weigh around 180. I do 30-90 minutes of cardio at medium speed on an elliptical trainer 7 days a week, faithfully. I break my workouts up into 30 minutes spurts to prevent burnout and also because I've heard that doing so will help burn more fat. Are there any supplements that are suggested for use with the Adkins plan? I'm on week 3 of induction, and so far so good. I take a regular multivitamin, regularly. Also, will can products such as Trimspa and Xenadrine be detrimental to the overall program??

It sounds like you are doing great. There is a thread in the Advice and Support section about TrimSpa. In there, I referenced an earlier discussion where some thought TrimSpa worked against Atkins.
You should probably post the supplement questions in that forum or the induction forum to get more responses. |

Ideally, I would like to get down to 120lbs. I build muscle very easily, though, and I know that muscle weighs more than fat. I've battled an eating disorder my whole life, fluxuating between bulimia and anorexia. It's been VERY difficult to lose the weight since having a baby three years ago, inspite of diet and exercise. This is the first time in my life that
i can recall actually eating without giving thougjh to every calorie or gram of fat. Wish me luck. |

Many people here stay on induction (or at least induction levels) for extended periods. It depends on how much you need to lose. If you're only losing 10-20 pounds, it's probably not necessary. If you're losing 100 pounds, you may consider it.
People who are carrying more weight tend to lose at a faster rate than people closer to their goal. Many people have larger losses at the beginning, then settle in at 1-2 pounds per week - which is healthy. It's gets harder when you're closer to goal. We can't tell you if 120 is a realistic goal by September without knowing what you weigh now. If you build muscle easy, then I would stick to 2-3 days of weight training. You should try to get in 3-5 days of cardio, too, which is so important in burning fat. |

Hi Lexi!
Thanks for requesting the input. I'm almost 31, and had a daughter three years ago. I have a history of weight issuses on both sides of the family, and I'm determined not to fall into the same trap. I currently take Klonopin, but don't feel that it affects ny energy levels during the day. I'm now on the third week of the program(as I've heard is the "stall" week.) I was alittle disappointed that I didn't lose the kind of weight that others seem to lose in induction. I'm adding a variety of exercises to my routine---tai chi, yyoga, weight training. I would like to be down to 120lbs by September. Wish me luck! |
