Better idea for those two days...

Do total body both days,, but split them up so you
have atleast 48-72 hours between workouts.

Other than that,, I would say add some resistance training at home for upper body,, and just use the gym for lower body.

A nice set of 3, 5, and 8 lb weights,, (under $20 easy)
and a Firm video,, or a Joyce Vedral book or video..
would do wonders.

You can check out Joyce at: http//:www.joycevedral.com

and I'm sure you've seen "the Firm" everywhere..

The difference is.. firm is aerobic intergrate,,
and Joyce is a straight up weight lifting program..

but I've used both with great results (but I prefer Joyce, great methodology).

I think that finding what you can do and what you san stick with and just making it a part of daily life is the first step. Do not go to fast or go overboard at first. Build into what you are doing. Then you will better be able to gauge what works for you; what you need to keep fit.

For toning muscles, working out every other day is good. It gives the muscles you are using time to rest and build. I do not recommend a complex workout schedule. I like to keep it direct and simple. The important thing is the daily activity that provides cardiovascular exertion.

Good Luck! http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...icon_smile.gif

"Bottoms UP!!" That is the name of the book I could not remember...
Thanks.. I actually have it collecting dust somewhere, I better go find it!
Joyce Vedral is VERY inspirational for an almost 60 year old woman! Amazing.

Work Out Advice

My "routine" currently consists of walking/jogging every other day 2 miles.
I realistically can only get to the gym 2 days a week with my current schedule. If I utilize a weight routine, 1 day for "arms/upper body" and 1 day for "legs/lower body"... do you think this is enough effort to see an improvement in muscle tone with only working each muscle group once a week? (I am currently doing nothing... but I am wondering if only once a week will even make a difference.)
Thanks,
Caissa

(Evrrdy, Teuthis, and Monique, reading your posts have all motivated me to start going to the gym... Thanks! http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...on_biggrin.gif )

The 12-Minute Total Body Workout is a great one for starters using 3 lb. weights and can be done in the home.

I'm buying the Bathing Suit Workout and Fast Forward next week to begin those.

Previously, I did Bottoms Up with great success. I recommend Dr. Vedral highly.

Thanks Ev, That is an idea I really didn't think of, but can try out.
Funny you should mention Joyce Vedral... I love her! This is almost a decade ago, but I have her "college dorm workout" and the other book with the yellow cover (can't remember the name) with her routines.. yes she is pretty amazing. A very long time ago, I was doing her workout religiously with 3 and 5 pound weights... I was looking pretty good after doing the routine for several months, but I have completely gotten away from this. In fact, I have totally forgotten about her... I need to dig up the books and the weights and see if I can get back into the swing of things. Thanks so much for replying. She would push me much harder than the universal machines at the gym push me, that I know is true.
I also like the idea of your police academy training workout!!! At this point I am still working my way up from nothing to something, so I'm taking it pretty slow.
