Well done Wendy, three flights is better than no flights...maybe in a few weeks you can make it up to four and then start to run up there!
Congrats on getting active! |
OH Ok I was not sure. The times have changed soooo much lately. I must be out of date . This bike is going on my Xmas list. Thanks for your help. Oh one more thing is It hard to peddle if i go up a hill.
|
Ok 2nd day of the dreaded stairs. I am not use to excersizing at all and this is a big big mountain to climb for me.
let you know when I get home. http://mypeoplepc.com/members/wendyl...s/jhippoex.gif |
Jogging! I was almost at a crawl today. I did not think that I would make the 3 flights.
I could feel my heart in my head pounding. Scarey http://mypeoplepc.com/members/wendyl...res/heart2.gif |
4th Day I am down to 2 flights the 4 flights were too much for me right now. My calf's were starting to hurt. I think I need to work my way up to the 4.

It is harder to go up hills if you have a "speed" controlled bike.. typically if I am riding hills, I will lower the speed of my bike so that the peddling is more free.. These bikes are designed without a "speed" control, so it would operate on the same principle as a dirt bike, or track bike..
meaning, that it would operate at normal the same way that I would have to achieve by shifting down in gears to compensate for less peddle resistance,, do to incline.. That doesn't necessarily mean it would be easy though.. ofcourse, it may take time to get used to it,, but it would be relatively easier than if I was on my 18 speed,, in 10th or 12th gear.. eeeekkk.. that hurts. |
Keep up the good work, Wendy. Doing this every day will make it a habit and it will get easier and easier.
I am proud of you! http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...on_biggrin.gif |
Precisely. Work your way up. But don't give up that goal. Do the two levels until you can do it well; and then add another level. Expect it to be difficult. That is how we progress. Biking might be a good way to go too. That way you can coast when you need to.
Good Luck! http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...icon_smile.gif |

Wendy: You might want to think about checking at some local bike shops. Most of them do carry bikes in your price range and you might get better quality components for the same money you would spend at a Wal-Mart or other such store. You might also want to look at hybrid bikes as opposed to straight out mountain bikes as they are generally lighter. The heavier a bike is, the harder it is to move. You probably don't want really nubbly tires that are fairly standard on a mountain bike as they create more resistance too.
Good luck and once you do find your dream bike, enjoy. Riding is a lot of fun. |
Hehe, you are doing well, bet id be winded trying it too! http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...icon_smile.gif

Now keep doing it! Only do what you can, but keep at it and eventually you'll be going right up the four flights. We progress a little at a time over time. The key is consistence and determination. I'm proud of you!
Good Luck! http://www.lowcarbsite.com/images/sm...icon_smile.gif |
I don't know the names of the basic bike brands in the USA but I am sure you'll be able to pick up something basic for $300. Presumably Walmart(?) or Toys-R-Us will have something suitable and you may well have a bit of change.
Aim for a mountain bike - at that price it will never survive any off road use but it will have a wide range of gears that will make it easier to get into the swing of. Start with a really low gear and as you find it easier you can build up from there. Saddle wise you may need to visit a specialist bike store to get what you are after - in the UK you could find something suitable (and get the shop to fit it) for under £25. Best of luck - and don't forget the helmet. |
this bike look good but is this not a boys bike or are the unisex now.

starting today
Starting today I am going to walk up the stairs (3 flights) to get to my car, I use to only walk down the steps to get to work from the parking garage.
Well dang it I am going to walk up and I don't care how long It takes me to get to my car. http://mypeoplepc.com/members/wendyl...es/carwash.gif |
Oh my God T, I thought I was going to die. My car was parked on the 4th floor of the parking deck. I made it up to the 3rd floor and had to take the elevator the rest of the way. I was winded and sweaty. My heart was pounding so hard I thought I would have a heart attach. Well at least i did 3 flights. Phew!
